The Apple Watch is already selling out online

Apple launched its first new product category today, the Apple Watch, and it is already selling out pretty fast with delivery estimates being pushed back as far as six weeks so far for many who are pre-ordering online. However, this might not be entirely down to strong day one sales as Apple as admitted that its initial stock count is pretty low.

Right now on the UK Apple Store, many of the sport models won't be shipping until June, the higher end stainless steel models ship within four to six weeks while the Apple Watch Edition also won't be available until June.

In an effort to stop people from crowding outside of its retail stores overnight, Apple did warn that the Apple Watch would only be available to buy online, although it was still taking appointments for watch try-outs and fittings.

Either way, it looks like the Apple Watch is off to a fairly good start sales-wise, although a lot of the orders will likely have been placed by those looking to sell off the watches on eBay, as is usually the case with any big Apple launch.

KitGuru Says: The Apple Watch is an odd product, especially the ultra-expensive models, which don't really compare to traditional high-end watches. Do you think smartwatches are really necessary? Will the Apple Watch catch on at all? I'm a little curious myself, although I can't see myself using one full-time.
