RIM take a swipe at quality of Apple apps

Research In Motion announced a few days ago that their App World now has over 10,000 applications available for download. Much of the press found the statement rather underwhelming as the Apple store has hundreds of thousands more.

RIM VP of Platform product management Alan Panezic said “We aren't focusing on, say, hitting the 50,000 app mark. For us, apps are all about adding real value to the end-user's life and creating revenue for developers, We don't need 200 fart apps in App World. Those are apps you'll use three or four times then never open again. You're not looking at ads, clicking on ads or buying premium upgrades, and the app isn't adding any value to your device.”

Obviously, as RIM can't compete with volume, they are making a focus on quality, and they might have  fair point because the Apple store is full of nonsense programs, with private developers looking to make a quick buck.

RIM are dedicated in giving developers tools to create SuperApps in the hope that the BlackBerry App World platform won't be inundated with low quality applications which add little to the smartphone (or upcoming tablet) experience.

KitGuru says: RIM have a point, but let's see if they can keep the quality high, especially when popularity increases.
