All the way back in 2020, Apple removed Fortnite from its iOS App Store in response to efforts by Epic to circumvent the company’s store fees. 3 and a half years later, it seems the two companies have found common ground, with Apple finally unbanning Epic’s developer account.

Apple recently updated many of its terms and services, allowing for game streaming services to come to the iOS platform, alongside a whole host of other EU-mandated changes. This will allow Epic Games to bring Fortnite back to the platform and then some.

Following immediate confirmation that Fortnite will return to iPhones later this year, Epic Games have now announced the next big step towards its return, with the Fortnite creator taking to Twitter to say:

“We are bringing more opportunities to developers across all platforms and we’re so excited about what’s to come.… including bringing the Epic Games Store to iOS in Europe. Dev account secured, let’s go!”

Adding his own personal thoughts on this recent change, Epic’s CEO Tim Sweeney replied, saying “I'll be the first to acknowledge a good faith move by Apple amidst our cataclysmic antitrust battle, in granting Epic Games Sweden AB a developer account for operating Epic Games Store and Fortnite in Europe under the Digital Markets Act.”

While it seems as though for now the return of Epic Games to iOS will be limited to Europe, after almost 4 years this marks a major step in bringing one of the most popular games currently back to Apple users. Hopefully the iPhone maker chooses to expand its latest terms and services globally.

Thanks to the recent passing of the Digital Markets act in the EU, Apple has had its hand forced into opening up its iOS App Store. One of the biggest changes as a result is that app developers can now with greater ease bring cloud-based game streaming services to iPhones and iPad. Unfortunately for Xbox fans, Microsoft’s streaming solution will not come to the platform, with Xbox Head Phil Spencer claiming “there's not room for us to monetize Xbox Cloud Gaming on iOS.”

Following the announcement that Microsoft is set to bring 4 of its Xbox titles to other platforms, Tom Warren (via The Verge) sat down with Xbox head Phil Spencer to discuss these recent announcements and more. When asked “is there room for Xbox Cloud Gaming now on iOS” following the recent changes to Apple’s App Store policies, Spencer claimed:

“There’s not room for us to monetize Xbox Cloud Gaming on iOS. I think the proposal that Apple put forward — and I thought Sarah Bond’s comments on this were right on — doesn’t go far enough to open up. In fact, you might even say they go the opposite direction in some way, but they definitely don’t go far enough to open up competition on the world’s largest gaming platform.”

The Head of Xbox continued, “We will continue to work with regulators, and Apple and Google, to create a space for alternative storefronts. I’m a big fan of how Windows works, and you’ve got a Microsoft Store on Windows, you’ve got Steam, you’ve got the Epic Games Store, you’ve got GOG. You have alternatives, and I think alternative ways for people to buy things creates goodness for consumers and creators. I think the largest platform for gamers, which is mobile, should have the same.”

While this statement does stray from Microsoft’s stated goal of making every screen an Xbox, it is quite clear based on Spencer’s wording that the plan is to bring an Xbox App Store to the platform eventually, allowing them to maximise the amount of revenue/profit they can amass. That said, we will simply have to wait and see.

All the way back in 2020, Apple removed Fortnite from its iOS App Store in response to efforts by Epic to circumvent the company’s store fees. 3 and a half years later and the ever-popular battle royale game is finally returning to the iPhone “later this year.”

Apple recently updated many of its terms and services, allowing for game streaming services to come to the iOS platform, alongside a whole host of other EU-mandated changes. This will allow Epic Games to bring Fortnite back to the platform, with them taking to Twitter to say:

“Remember Fortnite on iOS? How bout we bring that back. Later this year Fortnite will return in Europe on iOS through the @EpicGames Store. (shoutout DMA – an important new law in the EU making this possible). @Apple, the world is watching.”

Fortnite was more popular than ever when it was removed from the Apple App Store back in 2020. Since then however, the game has only continued to grow – meaning it will be highly interesting to see how iOS users react when Fortnite does finally return to the platform.

Over the past few years, we have seen a rise in the number of game streaming services, including but not limited to Microsoft’s xCloud and Nvidia’s GeForce Now. Unfortunately, Apple has for years stood in the way of these services coming to its iOS platform – until now.

Making the announcement on their developer website, the trillion dollar company said “Today, Apple is introducing new options for how apps globally can deliver in-app experiences to users, including streaming games and mini-programs. Developers can now submit a single app with the capability to stream all of the games offered in their catalog.”

They continue, “Apps will also be able to provide enhanced discovery opportunities for streaming games, mini-apps, mini-games, chatbots, and plug-ins that are found within their apps.”

The full details on exactly how this works and the extent of its support can be found HERE. but in essence it seems as though the company is finally fully embracing such streaming services. Apple caught heat back in 2020 for their response to the rise in game streaming on mobile – heavily gimping the service on iOS and making it essentially useless.

It is therefore highly exciting to see that iOS users can finally stream games to their iPhones/iPads using a native and official app. Hopefully the App Store only continues to open up further.

Next week, Death Stranding Director’s Cut will arrive on Apple’s latest iPhones, marking one of the first AAA titles to be ported to mobile platforms. In anticipation of its release, the mobile controller hardware maker Backbone has announced a limited edition Death Stranding themed USB-C controller.

Making the announcement on their website, mobile accessory maker Backbone said “For Backbone’s first-ever game collaboration, we’ve partnered with the legendary Kojima Productions to bring you the Backbone One – DEATH STRANDING Limited Edition controller.”

They continue, “This collaboration commemorates the release of DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT for iOS. The Backbone One controller features custom product and packaging designs that blend the innovative design of the Backbone One with the artistic vision of Hideo Kojima and his award-winning title, DEATH STRANDING.”

In an interesting move, all purchases of the limited edition controller will come with a free copy of Death Stranding for iOS (which will cost $39.99 at launch – though is $19.99 currently). The Backbone One is one of the most popular mobile USB controllers and following the release of the PlayStation Edition, it is exciting to see more unique and themed controllers on their way.

Back in June of last year, Hideo Kojima announced that the award-winning open world ‘strand-type’ game Death Stranding would be coming to Apple’s Mac platform. This was later followed up by the reveal that the game would also be coming to the latest iPhone models. Initially intended to release late last year, Death Stranding has now gotten an official iOS release date,

Making the announcement via a press release, the team at Kojima Productions said “DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT, the definitive version of the genre-defying action game directed by Hideo Kojima and starring Norman Reedus, makes the trek onto Apple devices on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. The game will be available on iPhone 15 Pro models powered by the A17 Pro chip and every iPad and Mac with M-series chips.”

The game will cost $39.99 at launch, but during the pre-order period you can get the title for 50% off, bringing it down to just $19.99 – a great deal for what is arguably one of the most unique AAA games of the past generation.

Death Stranding marks the 3rd AAA game to come to Apple’s latest iPhones, with Resident Evil Village and RE4 Remake coming out late last year. With each of those titles taking a different approach to graphical and performance options, it will be interesting to see how Death Stranding’s settings are presented when the game launches in a week’s time.

Following the success of Persona 5, ATLUS have been pushed into the limelight, with the studio tackling new games, IPs and platforms. According to one insider, ATLUS is currently working on multiple games for Netflix.

As shared by a notable ATLUS leaker, the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei creators are reportedly “developing multiple titles for the Netflix mobile game platform,” with the insider adding that “One of these titles are related to Shin Megami Tensei series.”

Over the past few years Netflix has accumulated a rather healthy library of games on its service, ranging from ports of console games to titles based on their own original shows. As mentioned by the leaker, at least one of these titles will be based on the studio’s popular Shin Megami Tensei series.

That said, it is currently unknown whether this title will be developed specifically for Netflix or if ATLUS are working on porting some of their pre-existing titles – perhaps earlier entries in the series.

While Netflix’s game library does feature a decent amount of shovelware, the streaming service has put greater emphasis on bringing quality titles to the service over time. Just some of the best include Death’s Door; TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge; Before Your Eyes; Dead Cells; OXENFREE; World of Goo and the recently-added GTA Trilogy. Hopefully ATLUS’ efforts are going towards something substantive.

Delving into the mobile gaming ecosystem can sometimes feel like a foreign experience for those who mainly engage with the medium through consoles or PC. While there are some familiar faces, 2023’s top-grossing mobile games have now been revealed – showcasing a number of surprise additions.

As reported by ‘mobilegamer.biz’, analyst Appmagic data has revealed the top 10 highest grossing mobile games for 2023. While some of the included entries come as a bit of a surprise, what isn’t surprising is the fact that all of the featured games are free-to-play. With that, the full list is as follows:

  1. Honor of Kings ($1.48bn)
  2. PUBG Mobile ($1.14bn)
  3. Candy Crush Saga ($956.9m)
  4. Genshin Impact ($943.8m)
  5. Roblox ($868.6m)
  6. Royal Match ($835.2m)
  7. Coin Master ($728.7m)
  8. Honkai: Star Rail ($659.1m)
  9. Monopoly Go ($645m)
  10. Gardenscapes ($605.7m)

It is worth noting that games such as Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail and Roblox – which all have console/PC counterparts – only had their mobile revenue included in the calculations.

Even so, it is interesting to see the differences and disparity between the top 10 entries – in terms of age, monetisation and consumer unfriendliness. Hopefully come this time next year we see more positive practices being rewarded in the mobile gaming space.

It would appear that Apple's new iPhone 15 Pro is selling extremely well. While in previous generations, we've seen reports of supply chain cuts, the opposite is taking place with the iPhone 15, with Apple reportedly ordering millions of additional OLED displays from Samsung.

According to South Korean news outlet, The Elec, Samsung Display is boosting the number of OLED displays it is sending Apple over the fourth quarter, increasing production by five million units. Specifically, it is shipping more of the 6.1-inch OLED displays used for the standard iPhone 15 Pro, indicating that this model was more popular than initially expected.

LG Display also supplies OLED displays for Apple's iPhone 15 Pro models but has apparently not seen a notable increase in shipment forecast. However, there is talk of supply potentially increasing further by another two million units.

Apple is currently expected to sell 80 million iPhone 15 models by the end of the year, a number that includes the standard iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Plus, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Smartphones are much more powerful than they are given credit for, with these portable pocketable machines being able to run many modern video games. We are slowly but surely seeing more console titles making their way over to the platform, with IO Interactive now announcing that their PS2 classic Hitman: Blood Money is being remastered for iOS, Android as well as the Nintendo Switch.

Releasing a brief trailer to YouTube, IO Interactive and Feral Interactive officially announced Hitman: Blood Money – Reprisal: “a comprehensive reworking of the stealth-action classic, refined for screens large and small — with a new Minimap, Instinct Mode, and gameplay improvements inspired by later games in the series.”

Detailing this new release further, the team continued, “Hitman Blood Money — Reprisal’s modernisations make it a great fit for all three platforms, and both mobile editions come equipped with a fully customizable touchscreen interface, as well as controller and keyboard & mouse support.”

This upcoming release is in celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary and will arrive on mobile platforms later “this Fall” with the Switch release following “this Winter.”

For the uninitiated, Hitman: Blood Money was the 4th game in the Hitman series, initially released all the way back in 2006 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. At the time, the title was well-received, with some considering it to have been the best in the series so far.

Despite being an older title, it is exciting to see more console games being brought over to mobile platforms. Hopefully there will come a time when IOI’s latest games find their way onto smartphones – but until then, revisiting a classic such as Blood Money is a welcome step in this direction.

With all the talk surrounding Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a 3rd branch of the company is often forgotten about: King. Despite this, the mobile game publisher remains a huge part of the industry, with just one game – Candy Crush Saga – having raked in over $20 Billion since its launch.

In a report by VentureBeat, the publication spoke on King and the fact that the company is celebrating its 20th anniversary. 20 seems to be the magic number, as in this time the publisher’s flagship free-to-play mobile game – Candy Crush Saga – has managed to amass over 5 Billion downloads and has brought in more than $20 billion in revenue.

Candy Crush Saga was first released all the way back in 2012 and despite being more than a decade old, has continued to be updated with additional puzzles on a consistent basis – now featuring more than 15,000 unique levels.

King was acquired by Activision Blizzard back in 2016 for $5.9 Billion. Of course, since then Microsoft has announced its intentions to purchase the entirety of Activision-Blizzard-King for $68.7 Billion.

It is interesting to see that just one single mobile game has netted almost a 3rd of the entire acquisition price – showcasing just how lucrative this deal could be for Microsoft. With almost 250 million monthly active users, King seems to have cemented itself as a solid 3rd pillar in the Activision Blizzard King conglomerate.

During Apple’s recent iPhone event, the company announced their latest push into the gaming market, revealing that a bunch of full-on console titles would be making their way onto Apple’s latest and great iPhone 15 Pros. At the time, no release dates were given, though we now know when the first of these console games are set to arrive – with Resident Evil Village launching next month.

As reported by Gematsu, Capcom have officially announced the release date for Resident Evil Village on iPhones and iPad, revealing that the game will arrive just in time for Halloween on the 30th of October. While we do not yet have full pricing details, in Japan the base game will cost 4990 yen (converted to £27.50), with the Winters’ Expansion costing an additional 2000 yen (£11.02). That said, there will be some form of trial, with the opening sequences being playable for free.

Another Capcom title set to come to iPhone is the recently-released Resident Evil 4 Remake. No release date was provided (though is still promised to be coming some time this year), but the game’s price was revealed with the remake set to cost 7990 yen (£44.03) plus an additional 1000 yen (£5.51) for the Separate Ways DLC. Just like with Village however, the early portions of the game will be free to try out.

The mobile gaming market has historically been relatively cheap when compared to console gaming (not including microtransactions), and so it will be curious to see how these games perform on mobile.

Even the most premium mobile ports have typically landed at around £20 or less, and so to see a game such as RE4 Remake costing more than double that is interesting indeed. That said, bringing these massive AAA games to mobile is an exciting development and so hopefully more studios follow suit.

As mobile hardware has gotten more and more performant over the years, we have seen an increasing number of console games find their way onto iOS and Android platforms. Apple looks to be taking this one step further, announcing a suite of modern AAA console titles which are set to be natively playable on their latest and great iPhone 15 Pro.

Announced during the company’s recent ‘Wonderlust’ event, a number of new devices were shown off, including the Apple Watch Series 9; Apple Watch Ultra and of course the iPhone 15 series.

Unexpectedly, the smartphone manufacturer seems to be pushing into the gaming space in a rather aggressive manner, announcing that 4 current-gen AAA console titles are set to arrive on the higher-end iPhone 15 Pros:

  • Resident Evil Village (later in 2023)
  • Resident Evil 4 (later in 2023)
  • Death Stranding (later in 2023)
  • Assassin's Creed Mirage (early 2024)

As mentioned, in recent years we have seen a number of console games find their way onto mobile platforms, though typically they are ports of indie titles. That said, some rather chunky games are currently playable on mobile, including Genshin Impact and Fortnite.

Despite this, Apple’s latest announcement serves as the strongest indicator yet that over time we will see more and more AAA titles find their way onto mobile platforms. With these devices being so costly and offering high-resolution OLED panels, gaming on phones can offer a genuinely premium experience, and so it is encouraging to see Apple leading the way.

Hopefully it will only be a matter of time before all games are released across consoles, PC and mobile concurrently.

Earlier this week, we heard that Apple was planning to have 85 million iPhone 15 units made this year, showing confidence in this year's launch. However, Apple will also be asking for more money, particularly for its Pro models, which are set to get a significant price increase.

As reported by Apple Hub, Barclays analyst, Tim Long, has predicted an up to $200 price increase for the iPhone 15 Pro line-up. The iPhone 15 Pro is expected to increase to $1,099, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max may end up reaching a new price high of $1,299.

These phones were already pretty expensive but they also carried some substantial upgrades over the standard model iPhones, including significant camera improvements and additional processing power. Bloomberg previously reported that Apple is considering a price hike for its iPhone 15 Pro line-up, but didn't report potential specification upgrades.

While a price raise for the iPhone 15 Pro models is predicted, no pricing changes are expected for the standard iPhone 15 or the bigger Plus model.

In an interesting move, Netflix has been amassing a decent collection of indie games which subscribers can play for no additional cost. Following the likes of OXENFREE, Moonlighter and Immortality, the latest game to join the service is the hit arcade-styled side-scroller TMNT Shredder’s Revenge.

Available right now, TMNT Shredder’s Revenge is an authentic throwback side-scrolling beat 'em up which pays homage to the turtles’ legacy while also adding to it. As with other Netflix games, you are able to directly download it onto your iOS or Android devices, meaning the experience should be no different to playing on a dedicated console.

Of course, mobile devices are primarily screens these days, and so the game does offer full touch screen support. That said, if you did want a more tactile experience, you can always add a Bluetooth/USB controller and play to your heart’s content.

It seems Netflix is getting quite serious with its gaming offerings. In the months since its inception, the service has seen more than 40 titles added, including the likes of Into the Breach, Kentucky Route Zero, Twelve Minutes and more. A couple upcoming games have also been announced, including Valiant Hearts: Coming Home from Ubisoft and Vikings: Valhalla from Tilting Point.

We have seen a decent number of indie developers bring their fully-fledged console/PC games to the mobile platform, with one of the biggest being the hit farming simulator Stardew Valley. Like with many mobile ports however, the game is lagging behind when it comes to updates. Fortunately, the game’s latest and greatest 1.5 update has finally come to iOS and Android, bringing near-feature-parity to the game.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the primary developer for Stardew Valley – ConcernedApe – revealed that “The mobile 1.5 update has been submitted for iOS and Android, and will start rolling out to users over the next few days. The update should already be available to some on Android.”

While undoubtedly exciting, there are a few things to keep note of however, with ConcernedApe saying “On Android you will be asked to do a 1 time save file transfer. This was necessary because of new operating system rules concerning file access.”

Interestingly, the developer revealed that 1.5 serves as a major rewrite for the entire mobile app, meaning that while currently players may encounter new bugs, it should allow for much faster development of future updates on mobile. Considering the fact that 1.6 has long been underway, this is undoubtedly good news.

Update 1.5 is huge and comes with countless additions, changes and fixes, including but certainly not limited to:

  • The addition of an entire new region of the world, Ginger Island
  • Added new locations, dialogue, events, minigames, puzzles, and a quest line involving multiple NPCs
  • Added Qi challenges which unlock rare or unique items
  • Added an unlockable resort you can open to let villagers visit the islands, including new beach attire and schedules
  • Added a volcano dungeon which changes each time you visit it similar to the mines
  • Added secrets and puzzles to discover around the island
  • Added 9 new enemies

Update 1.5 is huge and has been a long time coming for mobile Stardew Valley players. Better late than never however, and with how big the update is, it is certainly worth the long wait. It is exciting to see that future updates will be much faster however.

At Apple’s recent hardware event, the tech giant announced a whole host of products, including the iPhone 14 Pro with its ‘Dynamic Island’ camera cut-out. For those not needing to be on the bleeding edge however, Apple also unveiled the standard iPhone 14, as well as a super-sized iPhone 14 Plus, offering small improvements over last year’s model.

The iPhone 14 comes in two sizes: the 6.1 inch standard-sized model, and a large 6.7 inch iPhone 14 Plus – replacing the Mini from the previous two generations. The introduction of a new screen size for the standard 14 is one of the biggest changes brought to the base model iPhones. That being said, there are some other hardware improvements coming to the 14.

Though neither as bright nor as smooth as the iPhone 14 Pro, the standard 14 and 14 Plus still offer a crisp and relatively bright OLED display – especially noticeable on the large 6.7inch Plus model.

The back cameras have been upgraded somewhat, bringing in much more light into the sensors for improved performance in darker scenes. Unlike the brand new 48MP sensor on the Pros, the standard 14s will remain at 12MP. Despite this, all iPhone 14 models share similar video improvements; adding a new super-stabilised ‘Action mode’ while quadrupling the resolution of its Cinematic mode to offer 4K filming.

Unlike the back cameras, the front-facing lens has been improved across the board, with the 14s and the Pros sharing a brand new TrueDepth front camera with autofocus and a larger aperture for 2x better low-light performance.

The 14 and 14 Plus will be recycling last year’s A15 Bionic SoC, though with an updated internal design for better thermal efficiency. Other miscellaneous improvements across the entire line-up include better battery life and car crash detection.

The iPhone 14 starts at £849 with the Plus going for £949. Both devices will be available for pre-order from the 9th of September, with the standard 14 shipping one week later on the16th – and the Plus not arriving until the 7th of October.

For months we have heard various leaks and rumours surrounding Apple’s iPhone 14/Pro, but the Cupertino-based company has now officially announced their latest and greatest generation of iPhones. While the 14 serves as a modest upgrade over last year’s model, the iPhone 14 Pro comes with a whole host of improvements and changes, including what Apple is calling ‘Dynamic Island’.

Available in both 6.1 inch and 6.7 inch variants, the iPhone 14 Pro | Pro Max share a similar design to last year’s iPhone 13 Pros though with much-improved hardware across the board. The most notable visual change can be seen on the front, where the notch has been replaced by what Apple is calling ‘Dynamic Island’.

This horizontal pill-shaped camera cut-out comes with quite a few nifty software features, utilising the phone’s OLED panel to morph the cut-out into different shapes and sizes, “consolidating your notifications, alerts and activities into one interactive place.”

The display itself has seen some upgrades too, with the maximum brightness of the 120hz panel being doubled to 2000 nits at its peak. Despite this, the screen is more energy efficient than ever, allowing for the 14 Pro to include an always-on display – a long-requested feature for the iPhone.

Selfies are also getting a major boost in performance, with a new front-facing camera which features autofocus as well as a larger aperture for better depth sensing and improved low-light performance.

Going to the back of the phone, the 14 Pro features a brand new 48MP main camera sensor, offering up to 4x the resolution of last year’s model. This also allows for the main sensor to serve as a 2x optical zoom lens (on top of the separate 0.5x ultrawide and 3x telephoto lenses). The new sensors are also capable of extracting more light from subjects, with the ultrawide seeing a 3x improvement in low-light conditions (and a 2x improvement to the main and telephoto cameras).

Unlike the regular 14, the Pros will also come with an upgraded SoC, the Apple A16 Bionic chip – meaning that despite the many new features, your phone should perform buttery smooth while maintaining an all-day battery life.

The iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max are quite a big leap in all aspects when compared to last year’s model. Unfortunately, this does come with an added cost, with the 14 Pro starting at £1,099 and the Pro Max jumping up to £1,199. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will be available to pre-order from 1PM on the 9th of September, and will begin to ship to users from the 16th.

For years, the consumer tech industry has been trying to standardise the use of USB Type-C for all electronics from external harddrives to display ports to mobile phone chargers. Most of the world's tech has switched over to USB-C except for Apple’s iPhones and their peripherals. After almost a decade, the iPhone may finally be getting USB-C.

This report comes from Apple Analyst and insider Ming-Chi Kuo who – with an accuracy score of 72.5% across over 100 leaks – has historically offered a reliable insight into the inner workings of Apple.

Kuo recently claimed that the 2023 iPhones will for the first time ever adopt a USB-C port instead of the proprietary Lighting connector which has been in use on all iPhones since 2012. With the rest of the industry having switched to USB-C long ago, Apple remained the sole mobile phone developer to stick with older and proprietary technology.

Perhaps even more exciting than this however is the fact that according to Kuo, the iPhone isn’t the only Apple device set to ditch Lightning. All of Apple’s current accessories which use such a port will reportedly be switching to the new standard of USB-C. Such devices and accessories include the likes of Apple’s Airpods; Magsafe Battery Pack; Magic Keyboard; Magic Mouse; and Magic Trackpad – to name some of the most common.

Though it is but a small frustration, the need to carry multiple cables to accommodate for Apple’s products has always been a frustration nonetheless. If what Kuo is claiming ends up being true, then we may soon bear witness to the end of an era for the iPhone, and a rebirth into a new age of USB-C.

Late last year saw the release of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, a re-release and remaster of the franchise's first 3D outings. Alongside the confirmation of this remaster was the announcement of a mobile release of this latest ‘Definitive Edition’. Originally intended to launch in the first half of 2022, the game has seemingly been pushed back.

When Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was first confirmed to be coming to mobile devices, it was accompanied with a release window of sometime in the first half of 2022. Now, as part of Take-Two’s most recent fiscal earnings report (and reported by VGC), it was revealed that the game has instead now been scheduled to release by the end of the new fiscal year – aka the 31st of March 2023.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was a mess when it first launched on consoles and PC, featuring many broken features, texture issues, performance problems and highly distracting visual glitches – to name a few. Over the months, all versions of the game have seen notable improvements, bringing the game up to a more acceptable standard of quality.

It is entirely possible that GTA Trilogy – Definitive Edition’s poor launch state on consoles is what prompted the delay on mobile. Regardless of the reason, hopefully the extra time allowed by the delay is used to ensure a smooth and solid mobile port.

Almost 3 years ago we reported that Respawn Entertainment had announced that they would be bringing Apex Legends to iOS and Android devices. Since then, we have seen the entire battle royale landscape change and evolve. Finally however, Apex Legends is coming to iOS and Android next week – at least in some countries.

A few weeks ago, Respawn Entertainment announced that Apex Legends was available to pre-register on the Google Play Store in 10 countries. More details, including information on the as-of-yet-unseen iOS version was promised to be coming at a later date. That time is now, as the team took to their blog to say:

“We know you have been waiting for updates on Apex Legends Mobile ever since we conducted our closed beta tests last year. We’re excited to announce that Apex Legends Mobile will enter the next major development milestone: a limited regional launch starting next week and expected to run throughout the Spring. This next phase will see Apex Legends Mobile go into limited release in 10 countries so we can continue our work on in-game systems, features, and more prior to launch!”

The 10 countries listed are: Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and Colombia and will include support for both Android and iOS across all of these regions.

For further information, including the minimum specs required to run the game and an FAQ, click HERE. Since its launch, Apex Legends has continued to improve, adapt and evolve – becoming one of the premiere BR experiences. If they can translate that experience to mobile, then Respawn may have yet another hit on their hands.

It has been a long time since Apple revisited the iPhone SE and gave it a much needed upgrade. According to sources this week, we won't be waiting much longer, as Apple will reportedly be launching a new iPhone SE in March, as well as an upgraded iPad Air.

In a recent report, Bloomberg stated Apple is planning to launch the new iPhone SE and iPad Air around March 8th. As per sources, Apple is planning a virtual event to present both products, following the trend set by the company on its latest announcements.

The same report claims the new iPhone SE will feature a better camera and a faster processor (probably Apple A15). In addition, it will support 5G connectivity, Qi wireless charging and MagSafe. On the other hand, Macotakara's report claims the new iPhone SE won't support Apple's magnet technology, so we're unsure about this particular feature for now. As for the design, it seems it will keep the same as the 2nd gen iPhone SE.

The new iPad Air is also expected to feature a superior chip and support 5G connectivity. Moreover, reports also point out that it will feature a Centre Stage front-facing camera.

New iOS hardware will of course be accompanied by a new iOS update. Apparently, Apple is planning to launch the iOS 15.4 update in early March, adding in new features, such as the ability to use FaceID while wearing a mask. Users can also expect to see the new Universal Control feature, so you can use one keyboard and trackpad to control multiple Macs and iPads.

KitGuru says: It's nice to see Apple may update the iPhone SE with a new chip and 5G support. However, many were also expecting a visual redesign. The iPhone 13 mini or 12 mini casing would be ideal, but that may be asking too much.

One of the PS5’s most unique selling points is the DualSense controller’s Adaptive Triggers, used both for gameplay and immersion purposes. Slowly but surely, more and more devices are supporting the feature, possibly creating a new controller standard.

iOS 15.4 recently saw its first Beta release shortly following the uneventful launch of iOS15.3. Luckily for Apple fans, 15.4 is looking to be quite exciting feature-wise, with a major step towards continued gaming integrations.

With iOS 15.4, the PS5 DualSense controller – which was already supported on mobile – has now seen additional features being ported over to non-Sony systems. Though it was already available on PC, the DualSense’s Adaptive Triggers can now be used with mobile applications.

Of course, older games will not suddenly be upgraded to offer use of the Adaptive Triggers, but developers can now create or update games to utilise this unique functionality.

At its worst, the Adaptive Triggers are a toggleable gimmick. At its best however, it offers multiple simultaneous improvements to the overall gaming experience. The mobile platform’s hardware has far surpassed the gaming software that is run on it, and as such, iPhones and Android hold within them so much gaming potential. This is a nice step towards this recognition.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a very popular property currently, with the manga recently wrapping up its 8th ‘season’ Jojolion, and the Anime currently midway through its 6th (Stone Ocean). In alignment with this, a new JJBA mobile game is in development – and it’s coming to the West.

Making the announcement in a press release, KLab “announced the acquisition of worldwide distribution rights, excluding Japan, for the mobile online game based on the “JoJo's Bizarre Adventure” animated series.”

Being developed in partnership with Shengqu Games, very little has been said of the game. What we do know however is that the game was originally intended to be released in Japan, Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau but has now been given a wider release.

There have been many JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure games over the series’ 35 years, however most of them failed to find their way officially to Western nations. It is therefore exciting to see more JJBA content being made – especially as fans eagerly await for the remainder of Stone Ocean’s episodes.

One other little tidbit suggests that this game will focus on the first 4 parts of the series – namely Phantom Blood; Battle Tendency; Stardust Crusaders; and Diamond is Unbreakable. That being said, depending on the genre of the game, it is entirely possible that it may be set up as a live service title with future content planned. There is little to be gleamed from this announcement so far, but for JJBA fans, the potential is certainly exciting.

Square Enix has never been afraid to cross over its Final Fantasy games with different franchises. This is even more so the case with the publisher’s mobile efforts. Following in the footsteps of its older brother, War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius will be crossing over with the popular RPG Persona 5 Royal.

Making the announcement via a teaser video on YouTube, Square Enix revealed  that a number of Persona 5 Royal characters will be coming to WotV: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. The three obtainable characters are Joker; Queen (aka Makoto Niijima) and Violet – aka Sumire Yoshizawa.

Alongside these three additions, the crossover will be bringing three of Persona 5’s villains into the world of War of the Visions, accompanied with a special event quest and even custom maps which harken back to Persona 5 Royal.

As is a must with all Persona 5 crossovers, the characters are just as stylish in this mobile release, with the likes of the action-heavy all-out-attacks being recreated for this game. The collaboration has currently only been announced for Japan, but as with most others, it will likely come to all players some time in 2022.

Of all the various crossovers that Final Fantasy games have had over the years (including but not limited to Pot Noodle, Ariana Grande and of course the entire Kingdom Hearts franchise), Persona 5 Royal is certainly not the most out there – but it is one of the more exciting ones. Hopefully such collaborations between SEGA and Square Enix continue into the future – and not just in mobile games.

One of Apple’s core ideologies is to offer their customers complete privacy. The iPhone is a byproduct of such a mentality, leading the industry when it comes to personal security and privacy in the smartphone market. iOS 15.2 pushes the iPhones further up this path, adding new privacy features and more.

Following a beta period, iOS 15.2 is officially out for all those with an iOS device capable of running the latest software. While the full patch notes are suitably lengthy, the main additions and improvements with 15.2 are:

  • App Privacy Report
  • Communication Safety
  • Digital Legacy
  • Macro Photo Control

Apple’s new App Privacy Report offers a comprehensive and deep insight into the apps installed on your phone, allowing you to “see how often apps have accessed your location, photos, camera, microphone, contacts and more during the last seven days, as well as their network activity.”

New and improved Communication Safety comes in the form of “[giving] parents the ability to enable warnings for children when they receive or send photos that contain nudity,” while the Digital Legacy “allows you to designate people as Legacy Contacts so they can access your iCloud account and personal information in the event of your death.”

The final major improvement is exclusive to the iPhone 13 Pro|Max, but that is due to the fact that the issue was exclusive to these devices. Prior to this update, the iPhone’s macro lens would automatically toggle – sometimes when you did not want it. Now, you can control the macro lens from within the camera app itself, with a convenient and easy to access toggle.

The full patch notes can be found HERE, and go into detail about many other additions, such as siri and search improvements, Apple Music Voice Plan and more. Those already running iOS 15 should definitely update to this latest version, while those who are wanting to wait for iOS 15 to be completely stable may want to wait a bit more.

One of the biggest video game stories in recent years revolves around the Epic Games v Apple lawsuit, which saw the Fortnite creator have its biggest money maker banned from the Apple App Store. Following the recent conclusion of the trial, it was revealed that the battle royale game may be banned for the next 5 years.

In the wake of the recent conclusion of the first Epic Games v Apple lawsuit, which saw Epic Games win some, but also lose some, it was unclear whether the main topic of focus – Fortnite – would be coming back to the Apple ecosystem or not.

Epic Games’ CEO Tim Sweeny has now shared emails from Apple themselves, who made the situation very clear. Taking to Twitter, Sweeny said “Apple lied. Apple spent a year telling the world, the court, and the press they’d ‘welcome Epic’s return to the App Store if they agree to play by the same rules as everyone else'. Epic agreed, and now Apple has reneged in another abuse of its monopoly power over a billion users.”

He then shared an email exchange between the two companies which in essence (and in Sweeny’s own words) saw “Apple [inform] Epic that Fortnite will be blacklisted from the Apple ecosystem until the exhaustion of all court appeals, which could be as long as a 5-year process.”

Regardless of whose side you land on in this court case, Fortnite being absent from the Apple ecosystem comes with many ramifications, to both Epic Games and Apple. It seems that perhaps for the first time, major companies are putting profits aside in order to make a point, standing their ground and wanting to see themselves as the moral victor. Of course, from an outside perspective it simply looks like an ego contest between two billion dollar companies. If nothing else, this situation is an interesting one to observe – as nothing similar has been seen in the past.

People love to hate on Apple and their iPhones, however the smartphone brand continues to dominate when it comes to profits and mindshare. Ahead of the latest iPhone 13’s release on the 24th of September, review embargoes have been lifted, and almost all of the talk surrounding Apple’s latest and greatest has been positive…though the discussion surrounding the iPhone 13 vs Pro is more complex than ever.

Review embargoes have been lifted for Apple’s latest iPhone 13 series, with reviewers' thoughts surrounding the iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro and Pro Max now public. One of the biggest complaints with the iPhone 12 series was its battery life. While the 12 Pro Max still exhibited good battery life, the generation as a whole saw a significant dip when compared to the 11 series. The iPhone 13 family all see boosts to battery life thanks to a marginally thicker casing and more efficient processor. According to reviewers, this allows for all of the iPhone 13s to exhibit great battery life. The only outlier is the iPhone 13 mini – though even that showed a big improvement over last year’s.

On the camera front, the standard iPhone 13 and mini receive last year’s 12 Pro Max cameras (sans the telephoto lens) meaning that even the cheapest iPhone 13 produces as good or even better photos than last year’s best (thanks in part to the new A15 chip). The Pro models meanwhile see another major jump in camera performance across the board, with all three lenses going far beyond the best of last year – though the main improvement can be seen with less-than-ideal lighting conditions. Even better perhaps is the fact that the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max share the exact same camera setup meaning that you will not need to get the big phone in order to get the best pictures and video.

The last major improvement noted comes from the screen. While the iPhone 13 and 13 mini see modest improvements to screen brightness – bringing it on par with last year’s Pro models – the 13 Pro and Pro Max feature even brighter panels as well as variable 120hz screens, making the silky smooth iOS operating system even smoother.

While it is still early days, it seems as though the iPhone 13 series succeeds in all of these key areas that Apple fell short with the last generation of devices. While last year also saw disappointment with the Pro lineup, it seems as though this year, the Pros are much more enticing. After spending a year with the comically large iPhone 12 Pro Max specifically for its better battery and cameras, it is exciting and relieving to see the iPhone 13 Pro being just as good as this year’s Pro Max.

After a lengthy beta period, the newest version of iOS is out now, though with some of the biggest promised features missing. Even so, those with an iPhone or iPad can look forward to a plethora of improvements and additions (and perhaps a few downgrades too), including a new Safari layout; live text; new focus modes and more.

Available now to all those with an iPhone 6s or newer, iOS 15 brings with it a long list of refinements, as well as some bigger improvements and features (though some of them are not available at launch).

Some of the biggest and most notable features include the new focus modes, which allows you to change your homescreen layout, available apps, notifications and more all with the tap of a button. It expands upon the previously available driving mode, now letting you make as many different modes as you want, all the while tailoring it to your needs.

Facetime gets a number of new conveniences, including a Zoom-like invite feature allowing you to communicate with non iOS users; new sound options letting you focus on voices, or isolate certain sounds; and a new bokeh depth of field effect which blurs the background of your live video feed.

Live text is one of the most impressive features added, allowing you to easily extract text from any photo thanks to new recognition technology, enabling you to highlight and copy text, numbers and more from a photo or screenshot. The Photos app as a whole has been enhanced, with more detailed metadata being made available to the user and more options available for memories – to name a few.

Other miscellaneous additions and improvements include: changes to imessage; a redesign of the notification panel; improvements to spotlight search; a new layout for Safari (though thanks to negative feedback, users can switch to the older layout); improvements to maps, notes, wallet, weather and more; and of course more privacy features.

There are also some other larger features that have been pushed back to later in the year, including Share Play (letting you watch content online with friends); find my Airpods; app privacy report, and more. Even with these missing features, iOS 15 offers plenty for you to dig into, and does just about enough to keep Apple’s operating system feeling fresh for one more year.

The WipEout franchise has historically offered a fast-paced and hectic futuristic racing experience as far back as the playstation One. The past decade has not been kind to the franchise however, with the last original game releasing all the way back in 2008. After waiting for so long, WipEout is back…but only on mobile.

WipEout Rush is a mobile game described as being “reborn as a fluid combination of merge, idle, and action game built from the ground up for mobile. Become the team manager and use your quick wits to earn and upgrade ships before you pit them in races against an all-star cast of charismatic bosses on your way to championship cup victory.”

Pitched as “A fresh new spin on the classic franchise,” WipEout Rush may not be as fans of the franchise remember. As reported by IGN however, publisher ‘Rogue Games’ CEO Matt Casamassina spoke on the lack of a PlayStation entry, saying “If I want that visceral, immersive, intense racing experience, I’ll find it waiting on PlayStation. But at the same time, we’re delighted that we could rethink wipEout for mobile with some fun new play mechanics and gorgeous visuals.”

“We hope fans will come to it with an open mind because—although different—we’re proud to bring the wipEout franchise back into focus with a fresh take on the formula,” he continued. “And we’ve poured a lot of love into the presentation, which includes loads of iconic ships and tracks, a new comic book-inspired narrative, a fitting electronica soundtrack, and gorgeous visuals that run at 60 frames per second on modern hardware.”

The WipEout franchise has been a longstanding PlayStation classic, bringing much needed variety to the racing game genre. While it is unfortunate to see a mobile game entry – and not a new console release – the fact that the console manufacturer has revived the franchise at all could indicate that they are planning a bigger return for WipEout some time down the line – perhaps to line up with the release of the PSVR2? Time will tell. Until then, WipEout Rush will be released in Early 2022.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the trailer? Do you want a new console WipEout? What other dormant franchises do you want to see return? Let us know down below.
