Today we're checking out the latest flagship from Oppo, the Find X3 Pro. For a high-end Android smartphone in 2021, it certainly ticks a lot of boxes, with a large and fast OLED display, quadruple camera setup, as well as the latest-and-greatest Snapdragon 888. The Find X3 Pro is its top-end device, priced at £1099. It certainly has a lot going for it on paper, with plenty of other features we haven't even mentioned yet – but is it worth the outlay? Let's find out.

OnePlus' latest flagship phone, the 9 Pro, has only been out for a few weeks but it appears to have hit a pretty significant stumbling block. Multiple users have reported that their devices are overheating, often – but not exclusively – when using the camera app. OnePlus says it is aware of the issues, but a fix is still a ‘few weeks' away.

The OnePlus 9 Pro launched back on March 23rd, to pretty favourable reviews all round. It offers a Snapdragon 888, Hasselblad cameras and a large WQHD+ 120Hz display. As reported by Android Police, a large thread on OnePlus' own forum shows multiple instances of OnePlus 9 Pro users running into overheating issues on their devices. Some report the issue appears while filming video for just one or two minutes, while taking just a few photos can also causes the error. As seen below, the phone displays a message reading: ‘unable to take pictures as the phone's temperature is too high.'

The overheating issue doesn't appear to be specific to the camera however. One user on the OnePlus forum claims their device ‘constantly remains in a “overheat” state', even when left overnight. That's despite monitoring utilities like CPU-Z and DevCheck reporting battery temperatures between '32 to 36C' and CPU temperatures between '38 to 45C'. Others have reported overheating while charging or simply watching video.

Given the inconsistency in the reports, Tom's Guide speculates it is likely a software issue, possibly related to the phone's internal temperature sensors incorrectly reporting their values. The good news is that OnePlus is aware of the issue, confirming to The Verge that a software update will address the error “over the next few weeks.” That's still a while to wait though, particularly if the issue is preventing certain users from taking more than just a handful of photos at a time.

KitGuru says: It's never ideal to see reports like these, especially so if you've just spent almost £1000 on a new flagship phone. Hopefully this is an easy software fix for OnePlus and there are no underlying hardware issues.

It's been a turbulent time for the tech industry, and now reports suggest Apple could delay the launch of the iPhone 12 from September to October – with some reports even claiming that the launch of the popular phone won't happen until November.

The reports are based on statements made by the CEO of Broadcom (via Bloomberg) from the company's latest earnings call. The CEO, Hock Tan, mentioned a “major product cycle delay” at a “large North American mobile phone” costumer. Even though Hock Tan didn't mention Apple by name, many have come to the conclusion that since Broadcom is a major supplier to Apple, that Hock Tan is indeed referring to the iPhone manufacturer.

“This year, we do not expect to see this uptick in revenue until our fourth fiscal quarter,” the Hock Tan added. “So accordingly, we expect, our wireless revenue in Q3 will be down sequentially.” The statement from Broadcom's CEO has been interpreted as strong hint that the iPhone will be delayed to Q4 2020. Broadcom supplies the Wi-Fi chips for Apple's iPhones and therefore has some understanding as to Apple's production timeline.

Apple launched its iPhone 11 towards the end of 2019, and it proved to be the world's most popular smartphone in Q1 2020. The company saw 19.5 million iPhone 11s ship from January to March 2020, which is almost three times as many devices as its closest rival, the Samsung Galaxy A51.

In spite of the logistical challenges that have arisen due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Apple still managed to ship 19.5 million of its most popular phone during the first quarter this year – which is almost 6 million units more than what the iPhone XR managed in Q1 2019. According to Omdia, this achievement is attributed to iPhone 11's “balance of pricing and features”.

“For more than five years—even amid shifting conditions in the wireless market and the global economy—one thing has remained consistent in the smartphone business: Apple has taken either the first or second rank in Omdia’s global model shipment ranking,” said Jusy Hong, director of smartphone research at Omdia.

Jusy Hong added, “Apple’s success is the result of its strategy to offer relatively few models. This has allowed the company to focus its efforts on a small number of products that appeal to a broad selection of consumers and sell in extremely high volumes.”

The first generation of foldable smartphones hit the shelves during 2019, with a relatively lukewarm reception from consumers and reviewers alike. Many of the early foldable smartphones suffered from issues that are usually associated with the first generation of a new product. Now Motorola is said to be working on the next iteration of its foldable Razr smartphone

In a recent podcast, Lenovo's South Africa general manager mentioned a “new iteration” of Razr, adding that “there’s one in September I think, coming up,”. A point to bear in mind here, Lenovo is the parent company of Motorola.

It's also believed that the next Razr will get “Android 10 out-of-the-box”, and as far as the specifications go the phone is reported to be “powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, and a 2,845mAh battery”.

The information is based on reports from XDA and even though the launch is still many months in the future, XDA says that the information can be trusted with the motivation that their “leaks of the first-generation Motorola Razr device turned out to be accurate”.

Additional information about the leaks from XDA can be found HERE.

Originally, the Google Pixel 4a was slated to be launching this month. The launch was later pushed to June, and now some sources say that the smartphone will be delayed even further, until July.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the tech industry has seen a wave of events and launches that have been cancelled, rescheduled or changed in one way or another, and it seems the Google Pixel 4a is no exception. According to Front Page Tech host Jon Prosser, consumers will have to wait until July 13 before getting their hands on the new smartphone from Google.

Some were hoping that launch of Google Pixel 4a would coincide with the launch of Andriod 11 Beta – though this is now unlikely if the launch of the phone is pushed to July. Jon Prosser also “kills” the 5G rumours by saying that the phone will only use 4G connectivity.

According to a tweet from Stephen Hall, managing editor at 9to5Mac, the phone is expected to be sold with a price tag of $349.

It's been a tough start to the year for smartphone manufacturers, but Xiaomi has announced that it has beaten the market trend by achieving a year-on-year growth of 13.6% for Q1 2020. The Chinese company also reported that major products sales have returned to pre-pandemic levels.

In spite of the tough conditions the industry has faced this year, Xiaomi said that it was able to navigate the downturn of the market. Xiaomi also said that it hadn't only beaten the expectations, it had also “achieved the highest YoY growth in shipments among the top five smartphone companies worldwide”.

A contributing factor of this growth was accredited to overseas revenue, which grew by 47.8% YoY – meaning Xiaomi's overseas revenue contributed to half of its total revenue, for the first time since the company was founded.

Xiaomi Founder, Chairman and CEO Mr. Lei Jun said, “Although the industry is facing severe challenges, the Group still experienced growth in all segments despite the market downturn, which fully reflects the flexibility, resilience and competitiveness of Xiaomi’s business model.”

Samsung has announced its new ISOCELL GN1 camera sensor that uses “Dual Pixel” technology, offering faster auto-focusing and brighter images. The sensor also utilises “Tetracell” technology for better low-light photography.

Samsung recently unveiled the new ISOCELL GN1, a 50-megapixel image sensor. The ISOCELL GN1 is Samsung’s first image sensor that comes with both Dual Pixel and Tetracell technologies.

Samsung explains that the “Dual Pixel technology places two photodiodes side-by-side within a single pixel that can receive light from different angles for phase detection”. The Dual Pixel technology makes it possible for one pixel to gather light information from different angles to enhance the image quality. Samsung also provides a software algorithm that uses said light information to produce a result that, according to Samsung, has the same image quality as 100MP photos.

The Tetracell technology was developed with the aim to make photos clear, even in low-light conditions. Samsung explains that “by binning four pixel signals into one, Tetracell doubles the image sensor’s pixel size to 2.4μm and quadruples the light sensitivity to take brighter 12.5MP photographs.” So even though the resolution is lower when using the Tetracell technology, it makes for brighter and sharper images in low-light environments.

Considering some manufacturers, like Huawei, have already been using a similar approach for low-light photography, it will be interesting to see how Samsung's Tetracell implementation compares.

For many years EA held the license allowing them to publish Tetris games on mobile platforms. This year however, the contract finally lapsed, with San Francisco based developer ‘N3twork’ taking over to produce an entirely new Tetris game for mobile. While the game initially operated with a one-time payment to remove ads, a recent update has seen the game altered to include a subscription – costing £4.99 for a week of ad-free play.

Since 2008, EA has held the rights to develop and publish Tetris games on mobile. Just this year however, the publisher announced that it no longer held the license, and that EA’s Tetris would be shut down on the 21st of AprilFollowing this announcement, a new Tetris title, developed by N3twork, was released for mobile devices. While the game was free to download and contained ads, they could be removed with a one-time-fee of £4.99.

In a recent update to the game, and in the wake of EA’s Tetris officially shutting down, N3twork revised the business model of its mobile puzzler. Now, instead of paying £4.99 to remove all ads forever, the developer has introduced ‘Tetris Premium’ – a weekly subscription model. This is now the only way to remove adverts from the game and costs £4.99 for a single week. Tetris Premium does offer its subscribers an “exclusive LCD theme” and exclusive avatars alongside ad-free play, but in many people’s eyes, these new additions do little to justify the change in its business model.

The mobile gaming market has seen its quality suffer in recent years due in part to its exploitative business models. It’s disappointing to see that N3twork has now adopted similar tactics for its official iteration of Tetris for mobile.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has brought a huge amount of disruption to global markets, including the technology sector. During Q1 2020, global smartphone production fell 10% on a year-on-year basis and that is now set to be followed by an even greater drop of around 16% in Q2 2020.

The first quarter of 2020 saw about 280 million smartphones produced, the lowest number in five years – as a result of supply and labour shortages. While the obstacles facing smartphone manufacturers in Q1 2020 have since been overcome, the market is now seeing a downturn in demand.

According to TrendForce, it's predicted that global smartphone production for 2020 as a whole will reach a volume of 1.24 billion units, an 11.3% decrease when compared to 2019. It's also expected that some manufacturers will see a sharper decline than others, with Samsung being a noticeable example.

Samsung is the world's biggest smartphone manufacturer with a 23.3% market share. However, it's predicted that the Korean company will see its market share shrink to 20.3% by Q2 2020.

Ever since the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy was remade for current hardware in 2017, fans of the series have been wondering what was next for the platformer. 2019 saw the remake of Crash Team Racing, and now following on from that is Crash Bandicoot Mobile, “A new kind of Crash adventure featuring your favorite characters!” Leaked back in February, the auto-runner has soft-launched for Android users in Malaysia – though fans in other countries can still get their hands on the game.

Developed by King, who are known best for the Candy Crush series of games, Crash Bandicoot Mobile is described as “A new kind of Crash adventure featuring your favorite characters! Crash & Coco team up to put a stop to Dr Neo Cortex's evil plan to destroy the multiverse!.”

Being an auto-runner, the game features three lanes which crash can use to pick up wumpa fruit while avoiding enemies and traps. As the game is currently only available in Malaysia, early impressions are sparse though positive. Of course, being a free mobile game, the title does feature many of the classic trappings of a free-to-play mobile title.

Still, to those outside of Malaysia who own an Android phone, the APK is available to download with an english option enabled, meaning that the game can be sideloaded. For iOS users, and those who would rather wait for an official launch, it is currently unknown when the game will see a wider release.

Though Crash Bandicoot Mobile appears to be a relatively inoffensive free-to-play mobile game, hopefully Activision has a full console-quality title in the works for fans who wish to play a new Crash title on more dedicated hardware.

Though Fortnite has been available on Android for over a year and a half, fans who wished to play Epic’s battle royale game on their Android smartphones had to navigate to Epic’s website in order to download the APK directly. This was due to Epic disagreeing with the Google Play Store’s terms and conditions, which would give the search giant 30% of every pound that Epic made. Finally however, it would seem as though Epic has conceded the stand-off, as Fortnite is now available on the Google Play Store.

When asked by Polygon why it had decided to change its mind when it comes to operating on the Google Play Store, the company stated that “after 18 months of operating Fortnite on Android outside of the Google Play Store, we’ve come to a basic realization: Google puts software downloadable outside of Google Play at a disadvantage, through technical and business measures such as scary, repetitive security pop-ups for downloaded and updated software, restrictive manufacturer and carrier agreements and dealings, Google public relations characterizing third party software sources as malware, and new efforts such as Google Play Protect to outright block software obtained outside the Google Play store.”

Due to these ‘difficulties’ that Epic claims to have been facing, they’ve “launched Fortnite for Android on the Google Play Store,” though “we’ll continue to operate the Epic Games App and Fortnite outside of Google Play, too.”

Despite conceding the battle to Google, Epic hasn’t given up on the war against the ‘Google Tax’, stating that “we hope that Google will revise its policies and business dealings in the near future, so that all developers are free to reach and engage in commerce with customers on Android and in the Play Store through open services, including payment services, that can compete on a level playing field.”

The Epic Games Store, of course, is well known for offering its developers much friendlier terms when it comes to storefront cuts and commissions. It is therefore understandable that the Fortnite developer would wish to see a similar treatment for its own titles. Of course, one could argue that Epic isn't in dire need of that extra revenue…but then again neither is Google. It’ll be interesting to see how this disagreement continues to unfold in the future, and ultimately, who will emerge victorious.

COVID-19 is a word that can be found in almost every news article as of late. Most news regarding the virus is bad. However, it's important to note that some news is good and some news is even encouraging. But there is some news out there that is just plain odd – including coronavirus conspiracy theories leading people to burn 5G towers.

3G has been around for almost 20 years, 4G for almost 10 years and 5G is in the process of being rolled out to the public in many countries. These are technologies that many enjoy in their daily life and each iteration has brought faster internet and better usability. However, “online conspiracy theories have misleadingly linked the cell towers to the coronavirus pandemic”, The Verge reports.

The image above shows a picture of an ordinary 5G mast. These are made to connect mobile phones to the internet, but some people are linking them to the spread of coronavirus. Some of these people haven't only made the connection in their mind, but they have also taken action – to put fire to 5G masts.

The arsonists seem to be diligent since The Verge reports that “At least one tower in Birmingham, operated by EE, doesn’t even provide 5G services but was still set on fire”. The same report shared that a spokesman from Vodafone said that four of its towers had been targeted in a 24-hour period.

According to the conspiracy theories, the city of Wuhan started getting the virus right after making 5G available. However, the theories seems to be somewhat lacking in logic, since 5G is far from being rolled out in all countries hit by the virus. It's hard to determine how long time the conspiracy theories will continue to circulate.]

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: It's difficult to understand the reasoning behind the conspiracy theories that are saying that 5G is the culprit behind the COVID-19 virus. Hopefully the arsonists will calm down soon enough and stop their destruction of valuable technology.

Wireless charging has been on the market for years with a many company investing into the technology – from the furniture giant IKEA to Apple. Now Lexon is looking to add to the selection of wireless chargers with its new stylish Lexon Oblio, a wireless charger that will also sanitise your phone.

While competitors focus on adding features like 3-in-1 charging, Lexon has another aim: to provide a well-designed and sanitising wireless charger with its new Oblio charging station. Lexon Oblio is Qi-certified, so it will be compatible with a majority of the devices that utilise wireless charging. Lexon's website states that the Oblio is capable of charging most smartphones in approximately 3 hours.

Lexon Oblio is designed by Manuela Simonelli & Andrea Quaglio, but there is more to the design than meets the eye – quite literally. Lexon explains that the sanitising aspect of the charger is done by UV-light, which can be harmful for the eyes. Therefore, Oblio’s construction is “made to protect your eyes”. The company goes on to explain that the device uses “advanced anti-bacterial UV-C light with ionizer technology” which makes it possible to kill 99.9% of all the germs on a smartphone screen in just 20 minutes.

The design allows for phones that are up to 3.26” wide or 0.41” thick. Oblio is available in dark blue, gold or white and is currently sold for 79.90 Euros on the company's website.

Oblio is only sold in a handful of countries in Europe and currently isn't able to be delivered to the UK. Lexon states that they're “working on expanding into more regions very soon” and that you can “sign up to get notified” when the product is available in your country.

While most of the attention at the Samsung Unpacked event yesterday was focused on the reveal of the new Galaxy S20 line up, Samsung had another innovative smartphone in the form of a new foldable that it was pleased to show off.

Samsung is keen to avenge its shortcomings in its previous foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold which suffered a few setbacks when it was launched last year. On the initial launch of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, tech reviewers found some serious defects with the screen hinge and folding mechanism which meant that the display would be rendered useless after just a few hours of using the handset. Samsung made some adjustments to the design and re-launched the Fold a few months later with more success.

The latest foldable from Samsung is a different concept to the Galaxy Fold, the Galaxy Z Flip features the first-of-its-kind foldable glass display. Unlike the Galaxy Fold which opened up like a book to give a more tablet-style screen space, the Galaxy Z Flip is a clamshell-style foldable that folds open to present a more traditional smartphone form factor and screen real estate.

When folded closed, the Galaxy Z Flip is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, about the size of a wallet and can display notifications on the cover display. Once opened, the Galaxy Z Flip reveals a stunning 6.7-inch display that can be used in a free-standing mode. The clever hideaway hinge and Infinity Flex Display, with Samsung’s bendable Ultra Thin Glass, allows the screen to be half-open, where it offers a split-screen display for viewing content on the top half with controls on the bottom.

In terms of specification, the Galaxy Z Flip is equipped with a 6.7” FHD+ 2636 x 1080 Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex main display with a 1.1” 300 x 112 Super AMOLED cover display. The Galaxy Z Flip features 12MP dual rear Wide-angle and Ultra-wide cameras with a 10MP front-facing Selfie camera. Powering the Z Flip is a 7nm 64-bit Octa-Core processor with a maximum frequency of 2.95GHz, 8GB of RAM, 256GB internal storage and a 3,300mhA dual battery. When folded, the Galaxy Z Flip measures 73.6 x 87.4 x 17.3mm. Unfolded it’s 73.6 x 167.3 x 7.2mm (6.9mm thick) and weighs in at 183g.

The Galaxy Z Flip will be available initially in selected markets including the U.S and Korea, with a choice of Mirror Purple and Mirror Black colour options on 14th February 2020. An additional Mirror Gold version will be available when the handset launches in a selection of other counties later. Samsung UK is showing the device on its website priced at £1,300, however, it is listed as out of stock right now with an option to get stock alerts sent to your email.

High refresh rate portable monitors seem to be making the headlines in 2020, MSI just recently launched a couple of ultra-slim, portable gaming monitors and now Asus has officially released its take on what a portable gaming monitor should consist of.

Asus has added a 17.3-inch portable gaming display to its ROG Strix monitor series. The ROG Strix XG17AHPE was first unveiled in mid 2019 and is expected to be available to purchase soon. The new portable monitor from Asus is designed for gamers to hone their skills while on the move and features some pretty impressive specs that we usually expect from high-end desktop gaming monitors.

ROG Strix XG17AHPE is equipped with a 17.3-inch IPS panel that provides stunning image clarity and true to life colour accuracy. A 3ms pixel response time, 240Hz adaptive sync refresh rate paired with a built-in 7800 mAh battery and an ultra-thin design, means that gamers can enjoy smooth and tear-free high FPS gaming anywhere they choose.

With a 17.3-inch, 1920×1080 resolution screen, the ROG Strix XG17AHPE provides 10% more visual real estate compared to traditional portable monitors. Thanks to an IPS panel, the monitor produces 100% sRGB colour accuracy with a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and wide 178-degree viewing angles to provide beautiful image quality and minimum distortion.

The 240Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time will give gamers the upper hand in fast-paced titles such as first-person shooters while providing a fluid and tear-free experience via adaptive-sync technology. In terms of connectivity, the Asus ROG Strix XG17AHPE features DisplayPort via USB Type-C and a Micro HDMI 2.0 port. Additionally, the monitor supports Quick Charge 3.0 via a USB Power Delivery 3.0 port to quickly boost the 7800 mAh battery back up to full capacity.

Asus has also equipped the ROG Strix XG17AHPE portable monitor with a folding stand that doubles up as a screen protector, as well as a pair of stereo speakers up front and a built-in ESS 9118 digital-to-analogue (DAC) converter to drive your headphones. The onboard audio processor is able to produce 24-bit/192kHz lossless playback for clear and immersive gaming audio.

Octi has launched the world’s first social network that uses augmented reality to connect people in real life. The Octi social network is built on cutting edge technology that has been tested by thousands of students across Southern California.

Already launched on Apple’s iOS platform, Octi claims its new social network provides the most exciting vision of its augmented reality platform future to date. With the Octi social network app, you can point your phones camera at a friend and see their profile floating around on the screen. The on-screen profile can display their favourite YouTube videos, Spotify songs and personal photos, as well as an overlay featuring fun effects and stickers.

“We've spent years rethinking the entire framework of social media to build an app that's both rooted in personal, human interaction and fulfils the promise of AR technology,” said Justin Fuisz, the CEO and Founder of Octi. “We had a blast building Octi and we're excited to debut it to the world today.”

To accomplish this achievement, Octi raised a total of $12 million from leading investors of consumer technology brands such as Live Nation, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Peter Diamandis' Bold Capital Partners, Human Ventures, I2BF, Tom Conrad, Rich Greenfield, Scott Belsky, and Josh Kushner.

“Octi is a unique mobile app that actually encourages its users to interact with each other in real life, in an era where technology has made it far too easy to avoid in-person relationships,” said Rich Greenfield, partner at LightShed Partners and noted social media analyst.

The Octi augmented reality social network app is available to download from the Apple iOS store now. An Android version is expected to be available later in 2020.

The post Apple rejects EU’s push to harmonise mobile device chargers first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
In an attempt to save the world from large amounts of e-waste and to simplify the market for consumers, EU lawmakers have been looking for a way to encourage mobile phone companies to use a single, common charging connection for many years.

Previously, companies such as Samsung, Nokia, LG, Huawei and even Apple, all signed up to a voluntary agreement to harmonise charging devices. Some companies have not quite stuck to this voluntary approach which has convinced EU lawmakers to amend a draft law to say it would be an essential requirement for radio equipment to use a standard charger, when imported into the EU, something which could eventually become legislation rather than voluntary.

While this may not be an issue for companies that currently use a USB connection for charging its devices, it would hurt others such as Apple that has its own proprietary Lightning cable for charging and data transfer. So it's not a surprise to learn that Apple has raised objections to the EU’s amendment and has issued a statement that claims the potential new law would “stifle innovation,” which could hurt the public more than it helps.

Apple has supported its claims by commissioning a study by Copenhagen Economics which found that creating a common charger would cost at least 1.5 billion euros, something that would outweigh the 13 million euros in environmental benefits.

“Apple stands for innovation and deeply cares about the customer experience. We believe regulation that forces conformity across the type of connector built into all smartphones stifles innovation rather than encouraging it, and would harm consumers in Europe and the economy as a whole,” was said in a statement by Apple.

Apple also feels there isn’t a case for harmonising chargers since the industry is already moving to make USB Type-C the common cable or connection for mobile device charging, which includes Apple’s USB-C power adaptor that is compatible with all iPhone and iPad devices. Apple believes this approach is not only more affordable, but convenient for consumers too.

Motorola introduced its new clamshell style, flexible display smartphone back in November 2019 and since then it has become one of the most highly anticipated handsets on the market. Motorola has now announced the device is available for pre-order in the UK via EE.

Motorola and its exclusive partner in the UK EE have released the new folding flexible display smartphone, the Motorola Razr, for pre-order in the UK. The handset has been available to pre-order on 4GEE mobile plans since yesterday with 60GB of data for the price of 30GB, priced at £99 per month over a 24-month period with a £50 one-off upfront payment.

Since EE is Motorola’s exclusive partner in the UK, for the time being, this is the only way UK consumers can get their hands on the Motorola Razr on a pay monthly contract. The Razr features a 6.2-inch cinematic Flex View display using advanced OLED technology which completely folds in half to easily tuck away in a pocket or bag.

An Interactive touch-enabled Quick View display that is visible when the smartphone is folded, lets users access features without having to open the phone up, to quickly respond to notifications, use the Goole Assistant to ask for directions or simply skip through your favourite music tracks. Both displays are designed to work in perfect harmony with seamless transitions between the two.

The Motorola Razer also features a Kyro Gold 2.2GHz processor, a 16MP main camera and offers up to 16.3 hours talk time with an additional 9.5 hours talk time out of a single charge of the 2510mAh battery. If you are hoping to get your hands on the Motorola Razr at launch then head over to the EE website to check out the tariffs and deals available to pre-order.

Samsung has announced it has completed an agreement to acquired U.S network services provider Teleworld Solutions (TWS) and claims the acquisition is vital to accelerate and simplify 5G network rollout across the U.S.

With the demand for mobile network increasing at a very high rate, the importance of smooth 5G rollout and network densification across the U.S is key. This new partnership between Samsung and TWS will mean the demand for network infrastructure, design, deployment and optimisation is met, and it will drive 5G network builds associated with open RAN, as well as fulfil demand for new enterprise cellular networks.

“The acquisition of TWS will enable us to meet mobile carriers’ growing needs for improving their 4G and 5G networks, and eventually create new opportunities to enhance our service capabilities to our customers,” said Paul Kyungwhoon Cheun, Executive Vice President and Head of Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung will continue to drive innovation in communications technology while providing optimization services for network deployments that accelerate U.S. 5G network expansion.”

TWS is currently a privately owned company that provides network services such as design, testing and optimisation for mobile services and cable operators across the U.S, it will now operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics America. Samsung claims that the acquisition of TWS will complement its own growth among network infrastructure clients. TWS will continue to serve existing customers and the TWS leadership team will work together with Samsung to address the 5G network upgrade cycle currently taking place in the U.S.

“Everyone at TeleWorld Solutions is excited to be part of the Samsung family, the advent of 5G and the amount of new spectrum coming into the U.S. market requires scale and innovation for the next generation of wireless technologies. Joining forces with Samsung will accelerate innovation to help our customers fulfil their needs for network strategy, deployment, and automation,” said Shervin Gerami, CEO of TeleWorld Solutions.

KitGuru says: Samsung already has a strong presence in the U.S market and this acquisition of TWS will help Samsung accelerate the rollout of powerful 5G mobile networks in the future as well as continue to invest in 5G advancement across the country.

Huawei’s affordable Y series smartphone range is set to receive an upgrade this month with an updated version of the Y6 coming in mid-January, so anytime now. Huawei has boosted performance of the Y6 and added a 13MP rear camera and 8MP selfie camera in the new Y6s.

According to Huawei, the new Y6s handset “combines quality technology and stylish design at a truly affordable price.” The Y6s which is due to launch very soon leverages a 6.09” display with a 13MP rear camera to provide a cost-effective solution for taking high-quality photos or video and sharing them on social media.

The Y6s features a 13Mp rear camera with LED flash that should produce perfect photos even in low light environments and can recognise more than 22 different objects categories and over 150 scenes. Thanks to its built-in Ai Scene Recognition, the Y6s can automatically make adjustments to the scene to capture the best possible shot.

Huawei has equipped the Y6s with the MediaTek MT6765 octa-core chip, 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage, to provide enough power and storage space for images, video and games. The Y6s runs on EMUI 9.1, based on Android 9 with complete Google Mobile Services and is equipped with a 3020mAh battery, meaning users will have ample battery life for all-day use.
