Toyota 400bhp Hybrid R Concept

Toyota are showcasing their new Hybrid R concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. This car brings race technology to a road car, with performance enhancements and fuel optimisations.

From what we are hearing, the Motor show will feature a series of hybrid cars – BMW for instance have confirmed they will showcase their i8 at the event.

The Hybrid R concept car will showcase a dual mode powertrain with a gas engine and electric motors. Toyota have not detailed the technology yet, but they are saying it will produce more than 400bhp. The two modes are designed for road and track.

They will be basing the design on the TS030 Hybrid race car that Toyota Racing entered into the FIA World Endurance Championships and drove at the Goodwood Festival. This used a 530bhp V8 engine to drive the rear wheels. The energy recovered during braking is then stored in a super capacitor which is located close to the driver. This energy can provide up to 300 bhp which can be sent to the rear wheels through an electric motor which is mounted in the gearbox case.

Kitguru says: The Frankfurt Motor Show will certainly be interesting.
