Xbox Live Gold Price rising by £1pm – from November 1st

Microsoft are going to increase the monthly price of Xbox Live Gold starting November 1st – the price will be rising by £1 to £5.99.

The UK are not the only region to suffer from a price increase as similar rises are due for the USA and Canada. UK gamers who pay for the service annually will not be affected by the price increase and users are also being offered the option to extend their subscriptions at the current price level. People who pay annually have to fork out £39.99.

“Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same,” wrote official Xbox blogger, Major Nelson when announcing the price changes. “We're confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.”

While this seems like a rather innocent price increase some online media are hinting that the winter release of HALO: REACH may be the reason for the price hike, with such a large online audience, there is a lot of additional money to be made.
