Thanks to some of our contacts in the industry we managed to get hold of a Gainward GTX Titan Black, which like all other Titan Black cards, is based purely around a reference Nvidia design.

Regular readers will already know the Palit GTX780 Ti Jetstream OC from our in depth review back in November last year. Palit may not be the first name that many readers associate with an ultra high end graphics card, but the GTX 780 Ti Jetstream OC impressed Kitguru so much that it walked away with our overall 2013 Nvidia GPU of the year 2013. When we tested the JetStream back in 2013, it really had no competition.

Today we managed to get hold of another sample, straight from the retail channel. When this card was released it was priced at £599.99. The price has dropped to £505.64 inc vat on Amazon. It is a lot of graphics card for the money.

An Nvidia GTX Titan Black will cost you anything between £790 and £850, if you can find one in stock that is. Remember, they are all identical so make sure you don't pay over the odds just for a partner badge.

We can see that due to the extra 3GB of memory, the GTX Titan Black has SKHynix GDDR5 memory chips visible from the rear of the PCB. The PCB positions on the GTX 780 Ti Jetstream by comparison are empty.

Both GK110 cores are built on the 28nm manufacturing process. Both cards have 48 ROP's, 240 texture units and 2880 CUDA cores. The GTX 780 Ti is equipped with 3GB of fast GDDR5 memory connected via a wide 384 bit memory interface. The GTX Titan Black has a higher memory count – 6GB of GDDR5 is connected via a wide 384 bit memory interface.

While both GTX 780 Ti and Titan Black have memory clocked at 1,750mhz (7Gbps effective), the Palit GTX780 Ti Jetstream OC is overclocked to 980mhz. The GTX Titan Black is clocked at 890mhz out of the box, although we find out later if there is any headroom available via software tweaking. Out of the box, the Pixel Filrate of the overclocked GTX780 Ti is higher – 47 GPixel/s v the 42.7 GPixel/s of the Titan Black.
