Enermax Revolution 85+ 1020W Power Supply Review

We have always rated Enermax Revolution 85+ power supplies highly and the new 1020W gives us no reason to rethink our standing. Unit efficiency is high and only at the top 10% of power output does it drop a little, to around 87% under full load.

Build quality has always been a strong point with Enermax power supplies and this 1020W model is as good as we have seen in this regard. We love the Revolution 85+ finish as it is hard to mark and doesn't attract fingerprints or scuffing on any level.

Internally the soldering and wiring as of equally high standards and the components have been well selected for performance and long term reliability, two very important aspects of a power supply. The use of a Twister fan has improved air flow and our testing shows great performance from this unit especially under sustained load. Noise levels are also excellent, and the fact the unit never broke 40 dba at +1000W in a room with 35c ambient temperatures is a testament to the efficiency and design ethic.

The only negative we can find is the +12V ripple which while not out of specification is sitting at a higher level than we normally record, the last generation Revolution 85+ was almost half of this result for instance. It isn't a major issue, nor is it something that is going to cause a demanding enthusiast concern, but it still raised an eyebrow.

The supplied bundle deal is very comprehensive with a plethora of items supplied, including a free LED case fan which is probably worth £10. The biggest problem facing Enermax right now are the new Corsair AX units which have excelled in our testing and considering the Corsair AX1200 is retailing for £235 inc vat, £15 less than Enermax are asking for this 1020W we find it difficult to subjectively give it a gold ‘must have' award. It does however earn our ‘Worth Buying' award, due to the overall quality, performance and high levels of efficiency.

KitGuru says: Another great addition to the Enermax Revolution 85+ power supply range.
