Default Is a tablet pc worth purchasing?

I’m going to college soon and was wondering if I should invest in getting a tablet PC. I would probably get an eee pad transformer cause its awesome but i don't know if it is really worth it. Its main use in college would be note taking and surfing the web and simple stuff. Mostly note taking. So with that in mind would you recommend that or something else or nothing at all. Paper and notebook never worked for me cause i was disorganized so don't mention that. Thanks!!

I suggest you get a laptop if you're going to be doing a lot of typing, tablet pc's are no good for copious amounts of note taking.

Never noticed this thread before...

You can always get a Asus Transformer Prime with a keyboard dock which will give you the benefits of an actual keyboard and still give you the advantages of a tablet

I'll wait for Windows 8 tablets. Together with a low power x86 CPU one will have the distinct advantage of running regular Windows software whenever the need may rise. Might well have to wait 6-9 months though...

In the meantime maybe one of those 10" netbooks could be something? They have real keyboards after all and even the dual core versions that aren't so terribly slow are cheap now. ASUS has models with both Atom N570 or AMD C-60 CPU's.

If you're thinking about buying a tablet, consider this simple differentiator:

If you want a device to mainly CONSUME content, choose a tablet.

If you want a device to CREATE AND CONSUME content, choose a laptop.

Sure, you CAN type on a touchscreen, but you'll very quickly want a keyboard if it needs to be a regular thing
