Supplier expects Nintendo NX to ship 10-12 million units in 2016

Nintendo still has two big game launches left in the Wii U but that isn't stopping rumours surrounding the company's next console, currently codenamed the ‘NX'. We already know that Nintendo is planning a new console, though it isn't sharing any details until 2016. However, we could potentially see the console release next year too, with supply chain rumours suggesting that the system is already in mass production.

On top of that, a new rumour coming from a supply chain source speaking with DigiTimes, claims that Nintendo is currently expected to ship around ten to twelve million NX units in 2016, with Foxconn currently in charge of production duties.

While these rumours could pan out and Nintendo could potentially be stocking up on Nintendo NX consoles already, the Wii U still has some life left in it, with Star Fox due out early next year. We are also awaiting a new release date for the next Zelda game, though Nintendo could pull a ‘Twilight Princess' and release the game on both the Wii U and NX .

Either way, it will be interesting to see what Nintendo does next year, though it is difficult to predict considering that Nintendo often does things very differently to the other two big console makers.

KitGuru Says: I'm excited to see what happens with the Nintendo NX, though I find these rumours hard to believe. Nintendo still has two big game launches to get through on the Wii U, though it could do with replacing the console pretty soon.
