A team is remaking Knights of the Old Republic in Unreal Engine 4

It has been close to 13 years since Bioware launched Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the series still remains popular today. So much so that a group of budding enthusiasts have got together to reboot the game in its entirety and bring it to the Unreal Engine 4.

Poem Studios has been working on Knights of the Old Republic: Apeiron for some time and already have a few of the game's playable areas built, including the Endar Spire, parts of Taris and Tatooine.

The team plans to add “new worlds, missions HUD, inventory system, items and companions” so it is a pretty huge project. Not only is it going to see Knights of the Old Republic rebuilt in a modern engine but new content will also be added.

Huge fan-led projects like this sometimes don't float well with companies that own the IP but Poem Studios is claiming that this is all legally sound since the game will be free. However, the studio also hasn't been in contact with anyone at Disney, EA or Bioware so they could have a different opinion.

KitGuru Says: Knights of the Old Republic is my all-time favourite game so I would love to see it rebuilt. Unreal Engine 4 is a very graphically impressive engine too so it should all look quite nice. However, we are probably a long way off from getting anything playable for now.
