It is not a secret that Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Phone platform is far from being truly popular. Even though formally it is supported by a dozen of vendors, many have not released anything based on the operating system. As a result, it is not surprising that the most popular Windows Phone-based smartphones are Nokia Lumia, which are now sold by Microsoft itself.

AdDuplex, a cross-promotion network for Windows Phone and Windows 8 apps, revealed in its recent report that 94.5 per cent of Windows Phone 8-based hardware used on the 24th of July, 2014, were Nokia Lumia smartphones. HTC commanded only 3.7 per cent of the Windows Phone 8 installed base, whereas Samsung made 1.1 per cent of smartphones featuring the WP8 platform that were in use that day. The share of Microsoft (Nokia) in the Windows Phone 8 installed base increased by 0.7 per cent in one month, according to the ad company.
