Blackberry 10 accepted for use by US Department of Defense

The U.S. Department of Defense has cleared Blackberry 10 smartphones and PlayBook tablets for use on their networks.  Reports hit yesterday that the department may also clear devices by Apple and Samsung.

The company, which were formerly known as Research In Motion announced in November that their BlackBerry 10 platform was FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) 140-2 certified.

The current approval from the department covers Q10 and Z10 smartphones and Playbook tablets and is sure to help drive sales over the coming months. The Q10 is available in the United Kingdom already with a release date set for later in America.
