Android Jelly Bean confirmed as version 4.1

For a few months now the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has been available for purchase through the Google Play Store – so long as you're in the United States. Now, a recently updated listing for the device has revealed that the next version of Android will indeed be known as 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Since the Galaxy Nexus is the official stock Android phone it will be “the first phone with Android 4.1 Jell…” and then the blurb cuts off. This is the first time that 4.1 or Jelly Bean has been referenced in public.

It also confirms that a new phone will not be announced, making the rumours of a sub-$200 tablet running Jelly Bean all the more certain. The tablet, alongside Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will more than likely be unveiled at Google's I/O event next week. Sadly, this rules out our guess work from the other day.

Google has managed to keep things well under wraps for the most part but a possible modification in Jelly Bean has been leaked. A thumbnail image of the Galaxy Nexus shows a frosted white search widget, which looks to be just like the one we saw in the Google I/O app screenshots.

KitGuru says: We'll find out in a week if Android 4.1 Jelly Bean can keep the Android army marching onwards.
