Intel Smartphone released in India – Xolo X900

The first smartphone featuring the Intel Medfield platform has been released – in India. The Xolo X900 may have a rather amusing name, but the rumours are that it is built by Gigabyte.

The phone is using an Atom Z2460 processor which is clocked at 1.6ghz and features a 400mhz graphics processor. There is an eight megapixel camera onboard which supports full 1080p high definition video encoding. There is also a burst mode available to capture those hard to get action moments.

The phone is loaded with a 4.03 inch screen featuring a 800 by 480 pixel resolution. The price converts to around £260 in the United Kingdom, although it is not yet available here.

They have chosen Android 2.3 Gingerbread as the operating system of choice however they will be updating shortly with an Ice Cream Sandwich update.

This is the first in a line of Intel smartphones, with other companies such as Orange, Motorola and Lenovo planning to release new handsets over the coming months.

Kitguru says: No Windows 8 plans have been mentioned yet, although it would be possible.
