Sony announce Xperia Z Ultra with 6.4 inch display

If you believe that mobile phone screens are starting to get too large then be sure you are sitting down for this one. Sony have announced their new Xperia Z Ultra, a smartphone with a whopping 6.4 inch display. Yes, a mobile phone that is only slightly smaller than most 7 inch tablets.

That 6.4 inch screen has a staggering resolution of 1920×1080, which gives the user 344 pixels per inch. The smartphone also features the new Qualcomm SnapDragon 800 processor. This is an incredible mobile design featuring four cores that run at 2.3ghz. You can read more about it over here.

The Xperia Z Ultra may be getting a lot of attention for the ludicrous size of the screen, however it is also one of the thinnest smartphones you are likely to see. It is only 6.5mm thick, and thinner than the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S4. It weight 212g, so there is some weight behind it, but due to the screen size this was to be expected.

The Z Ultra is waterproof, dust proof and houses a 3,000 mAh battery. It incorporates a 8 MP camera and will be running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Kitguru says: The Z Ultra will be released globally on a staggered basis in Q3, no news on pricing yet, but expect some good deals for contract users.
