ZTE Firefox OS smartphone to hit US and UK eBay

ZTE will be selling their new Firefox OS smartphone soon via Ebay stores in America and the United Kingdom. The smartphone will mean that consumers can buy an affordable smartphone based completely on open Web standards.

The phone ships unlocked and will cost £59.99 in the UK and $79.99 in America.

Firefox OS is designed as a cheaper alternative for low end smartphones, built around applications written solely using HTML5. The ‘Open' phone is primarily meant for developers and early adopters worldwide, according to ZTE.

It has 512MB of integrated storage and 256MB of memory. The device also has integration with Facebook and Twitter and supports location based services via Nokia HERE maps. Firefox web browser is preinstalled with the Firefox marketplace.

The phone has the same basic specifications as the Alcatel One Touch Fire which Deutsche Telekom started selling recently in Poland.

Kitguru says: Firefox OS will be supported by LG Electronics and Huawei Technologies, both companies will start shipping smartphones later this year.
