Our sample of the E461 was sent over before the retail packaging design was finalized so we aren't in a position to comment on the retail package. Going on what we've seen before from Arctic, we would expect it to have a silver design and provide more than adequate protection to the earphones within.
Arctic include a number of accessories within the box which let you get the most out of the E461. Firstly, they include two differently-sized sets of earbuds so you can achieve a comfortable fit. And they also include three replacement sets of earbuds in case you lose any from the first set. Finally, they include an adapter which converts the single 3.5mm connector into headphone and microphone jacks. This will enable the microphone function of the earphones when you're using them with a PC.
Each earpiece is constructed from two sections of lightweight plastic which come together in the middle. The back half of each earpiece is finished in metallic silver whereas the front half is finished in gloss black. This gives them a sleek appearance that looks much more sophisticated than many earphones out there.
Following the trend of most earphones these days, the Arctic E461's are of the earbud variety rather than the traditional variety which gives it a number of advantages. Firstly, the earphones have a good level of passive noise isolation thanks to the rubber ear buds. So when you crank the volume up to a reasonable level, almost all exterior noise is blocked out.
As we mentioned earlier, Arctic include three differently-sized sets of earbuds with the E461 which will help you to achieve the best possible fit. We found the pre-attached pair perfect for our ears, though, so there was no need to switch them round. If you don't use the correct size you'll find the earphones slip out easily.
The black cable carries a thin plastic shielding which feels like it could stand up to a reasonable level of abuse without breaking. It is a perfect length for use with an MP3 player or laptop but isn't really long enough to use with a PC, especially if your system is located under the desk.
Along the cable there is a small microphone which can be used with a smartphone without any seperate adapter. There is an adapter included for laptops, though. It also incorporates a small media control button which can be used with any compatible device like an iPhone, iPad or smartphone. At the end of the cable we find a gold plated 3.5mm connector.
