Blackberry cancels its conference and two phones

Things haven't been looking good over at Blackberry for a while now and the company might not be able to bounce back at all this time. The phone maker has not only cancelled its yearly conference but it has also pulled the plug on two phones it had in development for next year.

Blackberry does have an alternative in place of its cancelled conference it announced in a blog post: “Instead, we’re planning to continue with an engaging lineup of smaller, targeted events taking place all around the world over the next 12 months. These events are designed with a greater focus on the specific business, developer, and partner audiences, and will allow you to get the most out of your attendance.”

News of the event being cancelled followed on from the company's massive $4.4 billion loss during this year's third quarter. Considering the massive loss, the next bit of news doesn't come as much of a surprise, Blackberry has shut down development on two phones: “The company also made the decision to cancel plans to launch two devices to mitigate the identified inventory risk.” This information was buried in an earnings report which The Wall street Journal uncovered.

KitGuru Says: Things are looking pretty bleak for Blackberry right now, we'll see if the company's new CEO can turn things around.
