Nvidia Shield tablet to get Android Lollipop update

It looks like Nvidia's recently released Shield tablet will be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update fairly soon. The company released a new teaser video last night, giving users a peek at what new features and improvements will be arriving in the upcoming update.

Android Lollipop is Google's latest version of the OS and has launched alongside the HTC Nexus 9 tablet and the Motorola Nexus 6 smartphone. According to Nvidia, the Shield tablet will be one of the first devices to receive the update, which will roll out later this month. You can see Nvidia's teaser video below:

Users can expect their tablet experience to improve in a few ways, for a start, the Shield Hub application will be given a new UI, which should fit in well with Google's changes to the Android design. Additionally, thanks to a new Android application runtime environment dubbed ‘ART', battery life, performance and application debugging should be improved- allowing for a smoother experience on the tablet and better multitasking.

The Shield tablet is in a unique position in the Android tablet market, it contains Nvidia's powerful Tegra K1 chip, which also features in the Nexus 9 but due to its fairly low price point and gaming features, it should be a pretty compelling option to buyers.

KitGuru Says: The Nvidia Shield tablet is a pretty good option for anyone looking for an affordable Android tablet, whether you are interested in the additional gaming features or not. The only slight downside is that those who are interested in using this tablet for PC game streaming, will have to pick up the controller separately, which bumps up the price a bit.  Do any of you guys own a Shield tablet?
