Alienware M17x R3 Laptop Review (Core i7 2630QM / 256GB SSD)

The 17.3  inch screen is a glossy WLED LCD design set to a native resolution of 1920×1080 (1080p) and is highly reflective. At the very top is a 3 megapixel webcam for all your social demands.

The modern Alienware system keyboards are very impressive to look at, featuring a highly futuristic Star Trek font. Many people will be pleased to see a full num pad on the right (especially those who use the software calculator often!). Along the top of the keyboard are easy to access media functions, such as volume up/down. The AlienWare head in the center of the chassis, between the keyboard and monitor is used as the power button.

The Synaptics touchpad has a lovely surface, which is slightly textured to offer a modicum of feedback. An area of this touchpad can be configured for scroll bar operation. The two buttons at the bottom of the area offer a high level of feedback and while we never use a trackpad when possible, this unit can certainly be classed as one of the better ones we have used.

The M17x has a powerful battery installed – a 90Wh, 9 cell model. When the battery is connected a button can be pressed on the underside to give a quick indication of the charge level available.
