AViiQ Smart Case for iPad 2 Review

Rating: 7.5.

When they created the iPad 2, Apple also designed the ‘Smart Cover' which gives the iPad 2 screen an extra level of protection whilst interacting with it so that when you open the cover, it automatically turns on.  The only problem with this cover is that it only protects the screen and not the back of the iPad 2.

This is why Aviiq have created the Smart Case for iPad 2, which is designed to work in conjunction with one of Apple's Smart Covers.  The Smart Case is available in all the same colours as the Smart Covers so that you can colour co-ordinate your iPad 2.  It is also thin enough that you can still use the smart cover as a stand for the iPad 2.

The different features of the Smart Case are illustrated in the video above.

Aviiq supply the Smart Case within an attractive plastic that wouldn't look out of place in an Apple Store.  The reverse side of the packaging gives a breakdown of the features of the case.

Unfortunately we don't have one of Apple's Smart Covers available today to test with the Smart Case, but we can judge the Case in it's own right.  We have the red version here to test today which looks great.

Even though the backbone of the case is made of plastic, it has a large anodized aluminium insert that gives it a quality look and feel.  In the centre of the anodized aluminium panel there is a small Aviiq logo.

Around the edges of the case there are holes cut for all the buttons on the edge of the iPad 2.  There is also a large cut out at the bottom for the speaker and another for the dock connector.

The case is very low profile and fits snugly around the back of the iPad 2, and it is almost invisible when laid it on the back.  It should provide a decent level of protection and is sure to prevent the back panel from getting scratched.

At a price of around £45 at MobileFun.co.uk, we feel that the Aviiq Smart Case is a little expensive for what it is.  Sure, Apple's Smart Cover is    also expensive but they are official Apple products, so they can get away with it.  The smart case remains a good product but it would be much more attractive at a slightly lower price.

Pros:

  • Compatible with Smart Covers.
  • Range of colours available.
  • Good quality finish.
  • Attractive design.

Cons:

  • Pricey.

KitGuru says: A great product but a little expensive.
