Sony also announces the tipo dual – switch SIMs with one press

Sony has already announced the Xpera miro this morning but evidently this wasn't everything they have in hand. They have also just announced the Xperia tipo and the tipo dual. Yes, we have spelt the names right, for whatever reasons Sony has an obsession with lowercase names for their phones.

Sony's Xperia tipo sounds like a decent low-end Android

Starting with the Xperia tipo, it will soon be available in black, white, red or blue. Not much else is known at this stage due to Sony's rather marketing-influenced approach that doesn't really offer any useful information. A newer press release shows that it will have a 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7225A single core processor. They are claiming 24 hours of constant usage with its rather spacious 1500 mAh battery and Music Unlimited will be present. It will have a 3.2 inch scratch resistant display with a 480 x 320 resolution, a 3.2 MP rear camera and weight just under 100 grams. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will also be present and will the tipo will likely take up the low-end of Sony's Xperia lineup and offer a price tag enticing enough to those new to smartphone.

Switch SIMs with a press of a button

Perhaps the most interesting phone announced by Sony today is the tipo dual. We may be mistaken but this is the first time a major manufacturer has produced a dual SIM phone where SIMs can be switched with the single press of a button. Furthermore, you can set which SIM card to use depending on the time of day and event set up unique ringtones for each SIM. It will be available in both white and black. We would expect the rest of the tipo dual's specifications to be identical to the standard tipo.

Brief videos of the two phones can be found here and here. Both of these devices will go on sale in the third quarter of 2012.

KitGuru says: We don't know anything else about these phones right now but chances are they will be competitive low-end smartphones.
