Apple expected to sell 600,000 iPad2’s on launch weekend

Industry experts are saying that Apple could sell 600,000 iPad 2's during the launch weekend, a figure which is twice the amount of the original units sold at launch.

Analyst Brian Marshall of Gleacher and Company predicts that Apple will sell more than half a million units over the launch weekend. Brian isn't alone in his predictions as Tim Bajarin, an analyst at Creative Strategies also thinks that Apple could easily top 500,000 units at the weekend. “Apple has such a huge lead” he said, “Competitors are going to be chasing Apple for many years to come.”

Other analyst's such as Romand & Renshaw and Piper Jaffray & Co expect that Apple's new iPad 2 will outsell the original device. Gene Munster with Piper Jaffray predicts that Apple will sell 5.5 million iPad 2 units in the launch quarter, beating the 3.27 million sold in the first launch period.

KitGuru says: Early reviews of the iPad 2 have been positive, with the device not only faster, but thinner and lighter and the battery life still proving to be excellent.
