Alienware Orion Messenger Laptop Bag Review

As we picked up our sample of the Orion from the Alienbags stand at i40 it wasn't supplied in any form of retail packaging. So it's difficult to judge how well it would be protected.  But we think that even with the most flimsy packaging possible, the bag itself should resist damage well.

Though many high-end notebook cases are finished in leather, this is not the case with the Orion Messenger.  Instead it is constructed from 1680D ballistic nylon and is heavily padded so it can protect your notebook from damage where other bags would fail.

In the centre of the bag there is a metal Alienware logo which gives the bag quite a sleek appearance.  In fact, the aesthetics of the Orion Messenger are quite understated, especially compared to how overstated Alienware's notebook designs are.  We think this look is ideal as it will suit almost every possible customer from businessman to gamer.

Around the edge of the Orion there is a rather robust feeling zip surrounding the main compartment which doesn't feel dissimilar from the high-quality YKK zip on the Urbano Macbook Sleeve. In fact we wouldn't mind betting that all the zips on this case will last a lot longer than one of Alienware's fine machines.  Mobile Edge include a padded shoulder strap which is adjustable and can be removed when not needed.  Both the clips and fittings seem very robust and should stand the test of time well.

Inside the main compartment there is a large pouch, secured by a velcro strap, that is designed to hold your laptop in place.  This seems very robust and, combined with the padding in the rest of the case, should keep your laptop very safe and resistant to drops.  There is also a zipper pouch in the lid for storing accessories or documents.

There is also a front pouch that would be ideal for storing one of those mammoth power adapters that c0me with gaming notebooks these days alongside all your other bits and pieces.  There are a number of further pouches in here including RF-shielded mobile phone pocket.

Unfortunately we didn't have an Alienware notebook available to try out in the Orion Messenger at the time of review.  But, when we were at i40, we managed to get a few snaps of the two together, modelled by a member of Team Dignitas.
