Synology presents next-gen NAS products in Exclusive Interview

If a data disaster strikes a small/medium sized business then, according to Synology, 48% of them will be bankrupt within 12 months and a further 29% will go down before the end of the second year. If correct for all markets, then that is a staggering statistic. To find out more about how Synology's next generation products aim to help combat this problem, KitGuru spoke exclusively with Stefan Ferrari, Head of Sales for the storage experts.

Running systems in the healthcare sector, being in a band and a serious photographer, Stefan Ferrari has spent his life surrounded by data storage questions.

His hands-on experience is only one part of the strength of the Synology team based in Milton Keynes. They also have in-house technical support and customer service. They're also happy to deal with inquiries from people who just need more information about NAS, back ups and redundancy – through a free, dedicated information inbox – which we have flagged in the video.

Stefan took us through his updated desktop products for 2015 – as well as a couple of rack-mounted monsters. One of these can deal with up to 180 hard drives. If it was possible to put one of the new Seagate 8TB drives on each of those connection points – you would have a meaty 1.4 Petabyte storage solution. Nice.

While hundreds of journalists and expert users crowded around the free sandwiches in the Millbank Media Centre, KitGuru managed to get 1-on-1 with Stefan for a private-run through.

KitGuru says: While the new 4-disk unit is very appealing, we're still hunkering after the 1.4 Petabytes.

Tell us your storage disasters over on Facebook. Your experiences could help others avoid the pitfalls!
