SteelSeries Siberia Neckband Headset Review

The apple certainly hasn't fallen very far from the SteelSeries when it comes to the headsets aesthetics.  In fact the Siberia Neckband sports the same gloss-white finish that we've seen on the SteelSeries Siberia V2 and the original SteelSeries Siberia headset.  We happen to be big fans of this finish which looks just as good, if not better, on the Neckband when compared to our Siberia V2s.  The commonalities don't end there, though;  each earpiece has a very familiar-looking black mesh section nestled into the exterior of each earcup.

For some reason, SteelSeries has decided to forgo the leather earpads which made the Siberia V2 headset so much more comfortable than its predecessor, instead opting for a cloth-covered foam design.  Although this is only a minor omission, we feel it degrades the quality feel that is usually present in SteelSeries' headsets.  SteelSeries have also used cloth to cover the neckband in a bid to disguise the mechanism which allows it to grip your head and stay in place.  As usual, there is a SteelSeries insignia in the centre of the band.

Another part which has been taken from SteelSeries' box of spare parts is the retractable microphone which is almost identical to the one found on the Siberia V2.  This can easily be pulled out, when required, from the left earcup where it is stowed.  The sound quality of this microphone is perfectly adequate for chatting over Ventrilo or Xbox live.

Like the rest of the Siberia range, the Neckband doesn't have a braided cable.  This isn't a major drawback, though, and it has helped SteelSeries to keep the weight of the headset to an absolute minimum – something that is more important with a neckband headset than a standard headset.  At the end of the cable there are a pair of gold-plated 3.5mm connectors for headphone and microphone which can either be plugged directly into your computer or be used in conjunction with the PC or Xbox adapters.
