CM Storm QuickFire TK Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Thanks to the QuickFire TK's negative, user-facing gradient, a comfortable typing experience is very easy to achieve. The front edges are low enough to allow users' wrists to rest on their desk, allowing the fingers to conduct the key-locating movements. While this method is perfectly adequate for general typing, the F1 to F12 function keys require an entire hand movement due to their positioning and increased height.

Rubber grips located on the keyboard's underside and feet tips prevent any unintentional movement that could mean the difference between winning and losing.

Utilising Cherry MX Red key switches, the QuickFire TK is able to offer an enjoyable and productive general usage experience. Typing extended pieces of writing was made more pleasant by the keys' low actuation force and instantaneous feedback. Due to their lightweight design, the Cherry MX Red switches are a good choice for users that spend many hours per day typing words into their keyboard.

Using the supplied removal tool, CM Storm makes it easy for users to remove their keys so that they can access the Cherry MX Red switches and backlight LEDs for general cleaning or maintenance.

One thing to note is the noise output created by rapid pressing of the Cherry MX Red-based keys. While it isn't irritating for the specific user as they are probably occupied by a game or general task, other people located in the same room will soon make you aware of their complaints.

We wouldn't call this a negative point, but instead something to bear in mind if you are likely to be using the QuickFire TK in a room where disturbing other people could cause issues.

The red backlight system can be set to operate at 5 different intensity levels with 3 unique modes, dependent upon a user's individual preference. Full-lit, breathing and ‘gaming' modes can be selected, the latter of which activates the backlight LEDs in just the WASD keys, allowing them to be easily-identified when competing in a late-night gaming session.

When the main set of LEDs is switched off, a light indicates the current status of the dual-purpose-controlling FN lock, Windows lock and directional keys.

Gaming with the QuickFire TK was a thoroughly enjoyable experience that helped to improve the level of our performance. Well-thought-out key positioning and spacing allows gamers to hit a specific input with a reduced chance of pressing the wrong button.

The Windows lock key is an invaluable addition that prevents the start menu from loading unintentionally, hence eliminating the possibility of a user-inflicted inconvenience.

Operated by the dual-purpose ‘ESC' key, the NKRO function will please many RTS and MMO gamers that crave the option of being able to simultaneously press as many keys as their custom input requires. On the other hand, these users are likely to prefer macro keys, of which the QuickFire TK offers none.
