Arctic's P-series fans have impressed us in the past, often charting highly in comparison temperature tests with AIO coolers. This week, Arctic is launching its most powerful fan yet, the P14 Max.

The P14 Max is a 140mm fan with a wide speed range, going as low as 400RPM and all the way up to 2800RPM when the need arises. Like previous P-series fans, the P14 Max promises to offer extremely quiet operation at low speeds, but if you are having temperature issues, you can also boost them to high speeds for more powerful cooling.

The key features of the P14 Max include:

 • Wide speed range: 400-2800 rpm
 • 0 rpm under 3% PWM
 • Fan optimized for static pressure
 • Fluid Dynamic Bearing
 • Maximum smoothness, minimal vibration
 • Ideal for use on radiators & heat sinks
 • 6-year warranty

The P14 Max fans will be available in the UK for just under £11 each. A 5 pack bundle will also be available so you can kit out your system at a discounted price. The P14 Max 5-fan bundle is currently unavailable on Amazon, but it should be available for less than €59.99 in Europe.

Following the introduction of a new set of AIOs, Arctic is now turning its attention to air coolers. To celebrate its 23rd anniversary, the company has launched the Freezer 36 at an exceptional price point, boasting improved performance and easier mounting than its predecessors.

The Freezer 36 CPU coolers feature a side-flow heat sink design, which provides more efficient ventilation to keep your system running cool. Two P-fans, known for their impressive performance, are arranged in a push-pull configuration, so you can be sure that your PC will stay cool even under loads. Additionally, the click-fastening mechanism allows for easy installation and fan replacement.

The Freezer 36 package includes a custom contact frame that distributes contact pressure for LGA 1851 and 1700 sockets. This reduces mechanical stress on the CPU and motherboard. The CPU cooler comes with an aluminium cover that adds a touch of elegance to your PC setup.

Five distinct versions of the Freezer 36 are available: the standard version, an all-black version, a CO version with double ball bearings fans, and two A-RGB versions (all-black and all-white). All these versions are currently available at a discount, reducing the standard version price from €32.99 to €19.13 and the CO variant from €34.99 to €20.64. The most significant price cuts are on the all-black version, which saw its price reduced from €37.99 to €20.51, and the all-black A-RGB model, which was cut from €47.99 to €24.95. Lastly, the all-white A-RGB model's price was reduced from €48.99 to €25.96.

Arctic is preparing to launch a successor to its impressive Liquid Freezer II AIO liquid CPU cooler. A leaked trailer shows the new Arctic Liquid Freezer III coolers, but the company has yet to announce them.

As seen on the trailer shared by OuKi (via TechPowerUP), the pump block has changed dramatically, featuring a unique design that looks like an aviation engine intake. In earlier versions of the Liquid Freezer coolers, the ventilation fan for the VRM area was mounted on top of the pump block. However, in the new design, the fan is located within the pump block's top vent and directs its airflow laterally. The pump seems to be positioned adjacent to this fan, which ensures better cooling efficiency.

The Liquid Freezer III is available in three different colour trims, each with four size variations. The trims are white + ARGB, black + ARGB, and black without illumination. In the ARGB and ARGB versions, the lighting is present on the pump block, with the fan vent acting as an LED diffuser, and on the fans, which seem to be the P12/14 Max. The size options for each of the three trims are 240 (240mm x 120mm), 280 (280mm x 140mm), 360 (360mm x 120mm), and 420 (420mm x 140mm).

Arctic has also improved the radiator design by extending the fin area to the frame's edges. As we wait for the product's launch, we can expect to hear more specific details regarding the cooling performance and fan specifications.

KitGuru says: Considering how well-regarded the Arctic Liquid Freezer II is, we expect good things from the Liquid Freezer III.

Arctic makes plenty of fans to keep your PC components cool, but today this week they are launching something a little bit different. The new Summair and Summair Plus fans are tabletop desk fans to help you battle the summer heat.

Both models have a modern design and are available in black and white. The Plus model is battery-powered, so you can get up to 14 hours of normal use, or 25 hours of intermittent use. The fan charges over USB-C, so you can conveniently plug it in for charging whenever needed.

A full charge will take about three hours, so it will take some time and if you have it set up on your desk, you may just want to leave it plugged in and then unplug it if you want to take it to another room with you.

The standard Summair fan comes with a USB Type-A port, so you can plug it into many devices for power, from portable power banks, chargers, laptops and PCs.

The Summair Plus has a maximum fan speed of 3300rpm, while the standard version tops out at 2800rpm. The Summair Plus will cost £24.99 on Amazon and the standard version is going for £18.99.

Expanding the P-series line of fans, the P12 Max is Arctic's new high-performance fan. Compared to the standard P12 PWM fan, the P12 Max has a substantially higher speed, with speeds ranging from 200 to 3300RPM, making it the fastest 120mm fan available from the company.

Featuring high static pressure and high-quality dual ball bearing, the Arctic P12 Max 120mm fan is the ideal fan for enthusiasts and professionals who want maximum performance and a long-lasting, reliable fan. The Max has been redesigned to be appropriate for all settings, excelling when used with radiators and mesh panels.

The P12 Max outperforms the company's previous fans used in air- and water-cooling solutions, offering a wider RPM range, higher speeds and a new blade design that promises to improve cooling performance. Moreover, the P12 Max has a closed fan wheel design and rubber cushions in the corners to reduce vibration, resulting in less noise when rotating at high speeds.

Using the P12 Max fans with an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240mm AIO liquid cooler can greatly improve temperatures. In AIDA64 with the Core i9-13700K, the P12 Max fans combined with the AIO can reduce temperatures from 95.1ºC with the stock fans down to 78.6ºC. The Arctic MX-5 was short-lived, possibly due to the issues reported by users regarding material separation in certain batches. However, there's a successor coming in, and it's called MX-6.

With the MX-5 now in EOL, Arctic launched the MX-6 as the successor. The formula of the new thermal paste is based on the proven MX-4, which is still available to this day and will continue to be. With Arctic claiming the MX-6 has a lower thermal resistance, the new thermal compound can provide up to 20% better performance than the MX-4, which sounds promising.

Like all Arctic thermal pastes, the MX-6 is non-conductive and non-capacitive, eliminating the risk of short circuits and discharges that can damage your system. Thanks to its high viscosity (550 poise), Arctic's new thermal paste is relatively easy to apply on a processor IHS, exposed dies, and other types of chips.

Now available in 2g, 4g and 8g tubes, with or without MX Cleaner wipes, the MX-6 thermal paste starts at €11.99.

KitGuru says: Have you ever tried using Arctic MX thermal compound? Were you happy with the results? Would you consider getting a tube of MX-6 if you ever need to replace the thermal paste of your CPU or GPU?

Last year, we saw the folks at Asus team up with Noctua to produce a special edition graphics card using Noctua's cooling expertise. Now, we are seeing a similar collaborative effort between Inno3D and the cooling specialists at Arctic, with both teaming up to produce the Inno3D RTX 4090 iChill Black graphics card.

The RTX 4090 is no slouch in the performance department and as you can tell by the sheer size of most air-cooled versions of the GPU, it takes a lot to tame this particular GPU. Arctic and Inno3D are solving that problem by turning to a hybrid liquid cooling solution. Better yet, this is a smaller and sleeker dual-slot RTX 4090.

Arctic has been creating cooling solutions for over 20 years, and much of that expertise is on display with this GPU. The iChill Black uses a sleek GPU AIO cooling design, and Arctic's own P-Fans to deliver high static-pressure airflow to keep the graphics card running cool.

According to Inno3D's website, the cooler should offer just 26db of noise, making it quiet, while maintaining GPU temperatures of 60C and memory temperatures of 66C. Hopefully, it won't be long before we see the first reviews.

Multiple CPU cooler manufacturers have begun confirming their plans to support AMD's next-gen Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors. The new CPUs will launch alongside the first Socket AM5 motherboards, but the socket change doesn't necessarily mean you'll need to swap out to a new cooler.

With AM5, the mechanical dimensions remain identical to AM4 motherboards, so CPU cooler manufacturers don't need to do much to verify cooler support. This week, Arctic is guaranteeing compatibility for its coolers with AMD's new processors. This includes coolers like the Liquid Freezer II AIO, and the Freezer 34 air cooler, amongst others. You can see Arctic's full list of compatible coolers HERE.

This comes a few days on from MSI confirming that its CoreLiquid AIO liquid coolers will support AMD's new socket. We should see other cooler makers confirm support too, although theoretically most AM4 coolers should already be compatible.

AMD is expected to launch its new-gen Ryzen desktop processors and new motherboard chipsets in Q4 2022 – so anywhere between October and the end of December.

There is the A35 CO – Continuous Operation – which has an 1800 RPM double ball bearing fan designed for more reliable 24/7 operation and is 35 Euros MSRP or £31 at Overclockers UK. And the Freezer A35 A-RGB version which adds aesthetic flair via a blacked-out design and a 1700 RPM Fluid Dynamic Bearing ARGB fan, which is 43 Euros nominally or £35-37 online in the UK

We will focus on the A-RGB version as it seems like the most interesting option, especially at only a £4-6 premium for the more appealing design. Plus, the performance difference between the different fan options proved negligible in our quick testing.

Arctic opts for a reasonably sized 120mm-class heatsink for the Freezer A35. The black-coated fin array utilises 54 0.4mm-thick aluminium fins and four 6mm copper heatpipes in a U-shaped orientation. The standard and CO versions stick with bare aluminium-coloured fins and copper-coloured heatpipes.

The 734g heatsink is asymmetric in design, with the front side being a flat shape for the 120mm fan to force air through. A large cut-out on the rear side looks primarily designed for screwdriver access to the mounting screw.

Despite the A35 being the AMD-specific version of Arctic’s coolers, the heatpipe direct touch base is very modestly sized. In fact, the overall coverage area is smaller than a Ryzen CPU heatspreader. So, we will have to see if that design point works for Arctic.

Arctic uses shrouded fans for all the Freezer A35 models. This aids the visual appearance and tightness of fitting – which can be beneficial for air pressure. But it also reduces the requirement for sometimes ugly or awkward metal fan clips. Plus, the general slenderness of the overall cooler should present RAM interference as a non-issue.

The 120mm fan is pressure optimised and shares advantages of the P-series fans, according to Arctic. The A-RGB version features 12 LEDs that are controlled via motherboard vendor software and its fan operates at 200-1700 RPM via a 4-pin PWM connector.

One difference with the standard A35 and the A35 CO is that they ditch the LEDs and opt for slightly higher speed – 1800 RPM – PWM fans, as previously mentioned. But their fans operate in a semi-passive mode, so they are actually 0-1800 RPM speed ranges.

Warranty for the Freezer A35 A-RGB is a strong six years. The non-RGB versions increase this coverage to an outstanding 10 years. Those timeframes are awesome for sub-£40 CPU coolers, so credit to Arctic there!

AM4 installation uses the default AMD backplate once the standard AM4 plastic fittings are removed. Arctic’s two metal retention brackets then screw into the backplate at 4 points.

After applying the bundled Arctic MX-5 thermal paste, the CPU cooler heatsink can be screwed down using the two positions on its crossbar. Finally, there is the straightforward process of re-attaching the shrouded fan and then connecting cables.

The overall process is very straightforward, it is quick, and it results in a solid mount.

Arctic MX-series thermal compounds are widely known throughout the industry, and are frequently used here at KitGuru. As thermal pastes go, MX-series compounds are reliable and perform better than most pre-applied thermal pastes. However, a faulty batch of MX-5 paste has made its way into the wild, forcing Arctic to recall the affected product.

According to Arctic's statement, there are faulty batches of MX-5 thermal compound that made it out of production. The company explains that the affected compounds contain ‘anomalies in consistency and shelf life', leading to increased oil separation within the paste and premature hardening. Nobody wants hardened thermal paste, with Arctic claiming this can cause ‘adverse effects and application difficulties.'

Arctic has already identified the affected batches and is recalling them from circulation to prevent anyone buying the dodgy MX-5. It seems that Arctic quality control wasn't strict enough to avoid the shipping of such compounds.

If you have bought an MX-5 thermal compound and believe it belongs to one of the affected batches, you can contact Artic via its customer support page. Affected products can be returned and will be replaced, without exception.

KitGuru says: It's never ideal to find out a product you bought is faulty, but credit to Arctic for their transparency and doing the right thing.

Following the success of the company's Freezer 34 coolers, Arctic is updating the series with the Freezer 35 range. There are four variants of this cooler, each with two models: one for Intel processors and the other for AMD chips.

All Freezer 35 coolers feature a P-series 120mm PWM fan, which can rotate up to 1700/1800 RPM, depending on the cooler version. The heatsink used for these coolers is identical across all SKUs, featuring the same compact design to increase RAM compatibility. Each heatsink contacts the CPU TIM via four heat pipes.

Arctic tells us the mounting system for the Freezer 35 was improved to offer a simple process, using spring-loaded screws to optimise contact pressure and even the distribution of the pre-applied MX5 thermal paste. Installation gets even more accessible as Arctic sells specific AMD and Intel-compatible coolers, reducing the amount of accessories packaged with each product.

Besides the standard Freezer 35 coolers, Arctic is launching the CO (continuous operation) version, featuring dual ball bearing fans for increased reliability and durability. Moreover, we have the A-RGB models, packing a P-series fan with 12x RGB LEDs (3-pin 5V-DI-GND connector), and lastly there's the standard RGB model, using a similar RGB fan (4-pin 12V-G-R-B connector).

The i35 coolers are compatible with Intel LGA 1700, 1200 and 115x sockets and start at €33.99. As for the A35 coolers, they are only compatible with AMD's AM4 socket. their prices begin at €34.99.

These new 280mm and 420mm radiator sizes join the Liquid Freezer II 360 A-RGB, which we reviewed last month. We gave that version high praise for its PWM fan speed control through a single cable, cooling performance, low noise output and aesthetics.

The Liquid Freezer II series feature a PWM-controlled pump, with a VRM fan for additional cooling in the socket area, as well as 140mm P-series high static pressure fans. These coolers also come with integrated cable management, so all of the PWM and RGB cables are hidden in the hose sleeves, keeping your system looking clean.

Each Liquid Freezer II AIO cooler comes with a six year warranty. The new 280mm A-RGB version costs €99.99, while the 420mm version costs €142.99. Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

Arctic is expanding its line-up of PC cooling products with new CPU coolers, fans and the LGA1700 mounting kit for Intel 12th Gen Core processors. Besides the RGB and A-RGB versions of the Liquid Freezer II 280 and 420, Arctic is also launching new F12 fans and the A35 and i35 CPU coolers.

Arctic's new Freezer i35 and A35 A-RGB coolers are equal, with one exception: the former is for Intel LGA 1200/1700 systems and the latter for AMD AM4 systems. As the name implies, both coolers feature A-RGB lighting, allowing users to synchronise it with the rest of the system through the motherboard or a dedicated RGB controller. The included P12 fan operates between 200RPM to 1800RPM, cooling the heatsink that features 4x heat pipes. The i35 and A35 A-RGB coolers are expected to be available in late October.

Arctic's announcement also unveiled the RGB and A-RGB models of the Liquid Freezer II 280 and 420. Like the previous Liquid Freezer II 280 and 420, the new RGB and A-RGB models offer the same performance that made them famous while also bringing customisable RGB lighting to the table. The RGB models will have an option that includes Arctic's RGB controller. All models are expected to launch in late October and are compatible with Intel LGA 1200/1700 and AMD AM4 sockets.

Lastly, Arctic unveiled its LGA1700 mounting kit and introduced the new F12 fans. The PWM variant will be available as a single unit or in a 4-piece value pack. Moreover, Arctic will release a standard version (3-pin) and a TC (Temperature Control) version of the F12 fans in mid-October.

Arctic is back with some brand new case fans for 2021. Unlike most case fans, Arctic's new P12 PWM PST 0dB fans include a 0-decibel mode, allowing you to make your PC as quiet as possible.

There are two versions of this fan, one with analogue RGB lighting and one with Digital ARGB LEDs for better colour variance. Lighting aside, the main selling point here is Arctic's new 0-decibel mode, which enables completely silent operation when your PC is idling.

The new semi-passive case fans switch to passive mode when the PWM signal falls below ten percent. Both fans offer high static pressure, so they'll be capable of keeping air moving even when there is high resistance.

Here is the full list of features:

 • Illuminated fan rotor with 12 RGB LEDs
 • Semi-passive mode: 0–2000 rpm.
 • Focused airflow for high efficiency on heatsinks and radiators
 • Fan and A-RGB connector with integrated Y-splitter
 • Maximum smoothness, minimum vibration

The Arctic P12 PWM PST A-RGB 0dB will cost €12.99, while the P12 PWM PST RGB 0dB will cost €11.99. There is also an optional P12 PWM PST 0dB RGB controller available for on-the-fly lighting controls.

As you have probably noted, the new Zen 3 chips offer excellent performance, power, and thermals. But they really do run hot and require high-end cooling when overclocked hard with the solid frequency gains. That is particularly true for the 16-core 5950X that will often be at home in heavily pushed overclocked systems, so effective cooling is absolutely critical.

As such, we thought it would be good to examine how a variety of coolers that we have in for testing perform when given the tough task of cooling the Ryzen 9 5950X in a variety of operating configurations.

Arctic is adding a 420mm radiator option to its Liquid Freezer II line of CPU AIO liquid coolers. Just like the rest of the Liquid Freezer II line the Liquid Freezer II 420 is a “multi compatible all-in-one CPU water cooler” offering amazing cooling performance at a reasonable price.

Just like the other Liquid Freezer II coolers, the Liquid Freezer II 420 features Arctic's own pump design. Designed to reduce noise and increase efficiency, the pump is PWM controlled and has a power consumption of up to 5.3W at full load for the whole cooler.

The 38mm radiator with a high fin density allows the cooler to use more coolant than most other options on the market, while also increasing the cooling surface. Thanks to this design, the cooler can handle more heat and is also slower to heat up, resulting in an “up to 5 °C lower temperature increase in the temporary turbo mode of modern CPUs”.

The 40mm VRM fan on the CPU block was designed to be quiet during operation and durable. The fan is controlled through PWM and can reduce the VRM temperatures by as much as 15ºC, allowing users to increase the overclocking potential of their motherboards. If this fan fails, Arctic will send you a new one free.

The fibre-reinforced, long EPDM tubing makes the installation easier and prevents the coolant from evaporating, reducing the chance for the user to refill its unit. The 3x P14 fans included have their cables hidden through the “sophisticated cable management” system employed in this water cooler. Additionally, to turn it on, users just have to connect a single connector to the motherboard.

The Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420 CPU cooler is available now for €119.99.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Arctic's new Liquid Freezer II 420? Do you think it's too much cooler for the CPU only?

Following the launch of the Freezer 50 TR, Arctic has now launched the dual-tower Freezer 50 for other modern platforms. Compatible with both mainstream Intel and AMD processors, the Freezer 50 also features ARGB lighting and impressive cooling performance to improve your system's aesthetics and cooling.

The asymmetrical dual-tower aluminium heatsink features 6x U-shaped curved direct-touch heat pipes for improved heat dissipation and distribution. On top of the heatsink, there's black cover with 13x ARGB LEDs compatible with “A-RGB standards of leading motherboard manufacturers” so users can synchronise the lighting with the rest of the system. Unfortunately, due to the heatsink size and fan shroud design, it doesn't offer unlimited RAM clearance, only allowing up to 37.5mm tall modules. If the memory module has a V-shaped heatsink, higher modules can also be compatible.

The Freezer 50 comes with 2x P fans, a 120mm fan (200-1800RPM) and a 140mm fan (200-1700RPM), both with a rated noise level of 0.4sone at max speed. The P fans also offer other advantages including lower power consumption, less vibration, longer lifespan, high static pressure, PWM, and hydrodynamic plain bearings.

There's a version that includes an ARGB controller. If your motherboard doesn't have ARGB connectors, you can customise the RGB lighting through the controller. The controller can be placed anywhere inside the housing, allowing the user to change the RGB lighting through the remote control that comes with it.

The Freezer 50 is compatible with Intel LGA 1200, 115X, 2066, and 2011(-3), and AMD AM4. Additionally, the installation process has now become easier and faster thanks to Arctic's “revised assembly system”.

The Arctic Freezer 50 cooler is available now for €59.99 and €69.99 if it includes the ARGB controller. Both include Arctic MX-4 thermal paste.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the Arctic Freezer 50? Would you choose the one featuring the ARGB controller over the one that doesn't?

Arctic has released the successor to the Freezer 13 CPU cooler. The new Freezer 13X series includes 4 new coolers for both Intel and AMD systems. Just like the original Freezer 13 series, there is a CO variant that includes a fan with increased reliability for continuous operation.

All CPU coolers that belong to the Freezer 13X series come with a 92mm P-fan, but the CO variants use double-ball bearing for reliable 24/7 operation over the fluid dynamic bearing of the standard Freezer 13X coolers. In spite of using different bearing types, both fans have the same RPM range, from 300RPM to 2000RPM, and the same rated noise level of 0.3 Sone.

Featuring 3x 6mm Direct Touch copper heat pipes, the heatsink of the Freezer 13X has 44 cooling fins to handle the heat generated by the CPU. This heatsink together with the 92mm fan offers a cooling performance improvement of up to 5% when compared with its respective predecessors while generating less noise and reducing the cooler's power consumption.

Thanks to the reduced dimensions of 86x109x137mm (LxWxH), the Freezer 13X coolers can be mounted in most systems. The cooler comes with pre-applied MX-2 thermal paste to facilitate the mounting process. The Freezer A13X coolers are compatible with AMD AM4 sockets, while the Freezer i13X coolers are compatible with Intel LGA 115x, 2066, and 2011(-3).

The Arctic Freezer 13X series is backed by a 6-year warranty and is available now, starting at €22.99 for the Freezer A13X, €23.99 for the Freezer i13X, €24.99 for the Freezer A13X CO, and €25.99 for the Freezer i13X CO. You can learn more about these coolers HERE.

The post Arctic Liquid Freezer II all-in-one CPU Cooler Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Arctic is back with a brand-new all-in-one liquid CPU cooler. The Liquid Freezer II is a follow up to their original Liquid Freezer range of AIO coolers. With some interesting features on show, the Liquid Freezer II will attempt to knock our current best performing all-in-one cooler, the Deepcool Castle 240EX off its throne when we put it through its paces on our test bench later.

The Liquid Freezer II features a completely new, PWM-controlled pump design, which offers improved efficiency with low power usage and quiet operation. Arctic says the new Liquid Freezer II pump ensures an ideal ratio of a high CPU cooling performance and a low noise level.

In addition to the new pump design, Arctic has fitted the Liquid Freezer II with an integrated motherboard VRM cooling solution – something which we have often hoped to see on an AIO cooler. Arctic has designed a 40mm blower type fan setup into the pump body which potentially can blow cool air out in three directions; this should help with VRM cooling, which in turn can improve performance.

Arctic claim the Liquid Freezer II is more efficient than all-in-one solutions from competitors. Unlike most pumps from other manufacturers’ competitors, which run at full load even when idle, Arctic say their pump clocks down, consuming less power and producing reduced noise when less cooling performance is needed.

Another very interesting design feature of the Arctic Liquid Freezer II is its extremely neat and tidy appearance. Arctic has integrated cable management into fully sleeved tubes for a clean look in your PC’s case. Both fan cables run inside the tube sleeving and connect to the pump housing. A single cable then comes from the pump and connects to the motherboard, which drives both fans and the pump.

Arctic markets the Liquid Freezer II as an all-in-one liquid cooler that is designed for extreme overclocking and claims it can dissipate heat up to 300 W TDP. The Liquid Freezer II is fitted with two Arctic 120mm pressure optimised fans, which are designed for high static pressure output and best performance when radiator mounted.

Overall, the aesthetics of the Liquid Freezer II are very simple. Most of the cooler is black, there are a few silver highlights here and there and some white detail on the tube sleeving. One glaringly obvious omission from the Liquid Freezer II is LEDs, there's no hint of RGB lighting anywhere, which is a refreshing change. However, some users may not follow our train of thought on this.

The post EXCLUSIVE ARCTIC SNEAK PEEK: LIQUID FREEZER II & Freezer 50 TR first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Back in February, we had the opportunity to meet up with ARCTIC and get an early look at the upcoming Freezer 50 TR and Liquid Freezer II CPU coolers. They looked impressive but now we've had a chance to hear from ARCTIC'S technical director, Vincent Andre, to get even more details on these coolers and the design process behind them. If you've ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes when designing and launching an AIO or air cooler, then you will want to check this out.

ARCTIC'S technical director, Vincent Andre (above)

Everyone’s really curious about the technical details of the new CPU coolers. What can you share with us?

For the Liquid Freezer II, we gave ourselves a design imperative to not infringe on any patent because, being inventors ourselves, intellectual property is something that we deeply respect. We went through numerous functional designs–some were discarded due to the patent situation; some were discarded because of their complexity; and others were discarded only after testing them. So the final design, the one you have now, is the product that met each of these requirements.

The pump is powered by a three-phase motor, which allows it to achieve higher efficiency and smoother operation. We got the idea to add a VR cooling fan, which came with further integration challenges. This, however, went well with the choice of the 40mm diagonal fan and its integration over the cooling plate. We’re also quite proud of the cable management, as there are almost no visible cables in the product, even for the 360 variant.

As for the Freezer 50 TR, it was a project very close to our hearts, since we’ve been an AMD partner from the very first generation of Threadripper. Our internal goal was to create the best air cooler for Threadripper; based on what’s currently on the market, we feel confident that this goal has been achieved, and I am proud of the work the team delivered.

The Freezer 50 TR is a dual-tower, dual-fan air cooler with eight 6mm heatpipes to carry heat to the aluminium fins to be dissipated, so nothing groundbreaking in the technology. What’s special about its creation are the many, many hours of development that went into it. We honed every aspect of its construction to squeeze out performance capable of cooling the monster that is Threadripper.

Design was also a key element of this product. There were countless hours of back and forth between the engineer and the designer to ensure that we could phase in the performance optimization while maintaining a visually pleasing design, including A-RGB. This was a tremendous team effort, and the results are even more appreciable for that reason.

Can you tell us about the water cooling pump designed by ARCTIC?

ARCTIC is a company that puts innovation at the core of its product line, but we found ourselves using the same pump as most of the competition in the market. So, we saw this as an opportunity to challenge ourselves by bringing our own design to the market. Further, having worked with Asetek, we also knew both what aspects of their module was great and what aspects didn’t work well for us. We took great care to match them on the strengths while adding solutions for our ARCTIC-specific needs.

The development of the new coolers has lasted a rather long time. What were your biggest challenges?

As explained before, the patent protection was one of them. The second and biggest was actually the experience: experience can’t be acquired just by downloading it. You need to test things, fail, learn from missed attempts, then repeat that again and again until experience comes. Going into it, we already knew a lot about water cooling, but doing it ourselves made us learn way more deeply. Some things that seemed trivial were, in reality, very different than we had anticipated. In addition to acquiring the experience needed to create a great CPU cooler, we of course did not want to release a product without thoroughly testing it. We spent time making sure that the cooler would not only work for the user when they get it, but also for years to come. Value for money is a core ARCTIC principle, and for that reason, we spent a lot of time refining the design but even more time making sure the production process was totally mastered.

With the Freezer 50 TR, RGB will finally be part of ARCTIC product family. Can customers expect more RGB products in near future?

Yes, but let me here emphasize that the Freezer 50 TR is A-RGB, meaning each LED is individually addressable. We have made it so that a user can directly plug it into their motherboard if it is equipped with an A-RGB header. For the others, a controller will be available as a part of a bundle. And yes, we will have more products coming up soon– for instance, A-RGB fans.

Visuals play an important role for gamers and modders, especially when they’re planning their setups. Which other visual trends (aside from RGB) are you following with these new products?

We do not really follow specific design trends, though we have defined some design elements that we are conveying through the product portfolio. This way, not just gamers, but also all other customers, can have a cohesive design when they choose ARCTIC products for their PC cooling (something I would heavily recommend). The process of incorporating these design elements has been started already in the latest products and will be further enhanced in the future. RGB and A-RGB will be more present in the future products, but we will also keep in mind what made ARCTIC’s reputation: the value for money. So, our key focus will still be to bring great products at great price. Now, some of those products will be glowing in multiple colours, too.

Both of these coolers are part of a larger series (ARCTIC Freezers). Which models we can expect next?

We’re working on upcoming products to complete or renew the ARCTIC CPU Cooler portfolio. The lower-priced end of the portfolio was updated last year with the release of the Alpine 12 and AM4 series, and we’re now replacing the Liquid Freezer. We’re opening a new segment with the beefy Freezer 50 TR, which will have a younger sibling, the Freezer 50, aimed at Intel 115x/2066 and AMD AM4 sockets. The rest of the Freezer portfolio will slowly be replaced by new and improved coolers.

On the fans front, we’ve also got some incoming products with, for instance the A-RGB fan I mentioned. Plenty of exciting things coming up!

KitGuru Says: Lots of interesting details here straight from the man himself. We'll be looking forward to getting our hands on these coolers soon and putting them through their paces.
