Research In Motion are trying to make peace with their customers by offering free applications to their customers.

This offering is a very public apology to their user base who have suffered from broken services over the last week, including email and instant messaging. They will give $100 of free applications via their online store.

We aren't so sure that business users will value the response, especially as Blackberry doesn't really have the same quality of applications available as Android or iOS platforms.

Research in Motion listed 12 applications that would be given away free, hardly a wonderful selection for customers. They did add that more will be available at a later date.

Obviously this could actually end up driving welcome traffic to their store, but we had a look last night and the selection of applications available is rather embarrassing.

RIM are offering the free downloads until the end of the year and they are giving government and corporate users technical support for one month, at no cost – instead of the applications.

Kitguru says: It isn't really much of an appeasement.
