Diablo 4's anticipated ray-tracing update arrives this week, bringing ray-traced shadows and reflections to the land of Sanctuary. This isn't the only game getting RTX feature support this week though, with DLSS also heading to several other major games.

Diablo 4's ray-tracing update drops this week, adding to previously available features like DLSS 2 or DLSS 3 with Frame Generation and Nvidia Reflex. Alone in the Dark, a new reboot of the classic horror franchise, is also available this week with DLSS 2, allowing RTX graphics card users to save some performance without sacrificing much in the way of visual fidelity.

Here are the full bullet points from Nvidia, including performance details for new releases like Horizon Forbidden West and Outpost: Infinity Siege:

 • Diablo IV – new update is available now which adds ray-traced effects to Sanctuary. The game is already accelerated with DLSS 3 Frame Generation and Reflex. The update adds ray traced reflection and shadows. With a GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU, you can multiply performance by up to 3X thanks to DLSS 3.
 • Outpost: Infinity Siege – launches today with DLSS 3 Frame Generation , DLSS Super Resolution and Reflex. At 4K, with every setting maxed out, DLSS 3 will multiply performance by an average of 3.3X in Outpost: Infinity Siege. With this massive frame rate boost, GeForce RTX 4090 users can hit 160 FPS, the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER exceeds 120 FPS, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER tops 110 FPS, and the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER surpasses 100 FPS, giving GeForce RTX 40 Series gamers the definitive experience at the highest resolution, with everything cranked.
 • Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition – available now with DLSS 3 Frame Generation, DLSS 2 Super Resolution, DLAA and Reflex. At 4K, with every setting maxed out, GeForce RTX 40 Series gamers are able to double their Horizon Forbidden West™ Complete Edition frame rates by enabling DLSS 3 with just a few clicks. On the GeForce RTX 4090, performance tops 180 FPS; the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER surpasses 144 FPS, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti speeds past 120 FPS, the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER exceeds 110 FPS, and the GeForce RTX 4070 runs at over 90 FPS.

About a year after launching a new series, Nvidia typically releases new SKUs based on non-standard GPUs. These GPUs have deactivated cores that would otherwise go unused, and instead of discarding them, the company reduces the specifications to match lower-end devices. This means a card like RTX 4070 may have a bigger AD103 GPU, which are usually reserved for RTX 4080 cards.

According to MEGAsizeGPU, Nvidia will soon introduce new versions of RTX 4070, RTX 4060 Ti, and RTX 4060 graphics cards. The newer RTX 4070 would feature an AD103 GPU (AD103-175-KX) and the PG141 SKU370 PCB. As for the RTX 4060 series, the new RTX 4060 Ti will reportedly come with an AD104 GPU (AD104-150-KX) and the PG141 SKU359 PCB, while the RTX 4060 would have an AD106 GPU (AD106-255) and the PG173 SKU368 PCB.

These GPUs are already referenced in the most recent official drivers, which means they could be released at any moment. However, MEGAsizeGPU predicts that at least two models won't be available until April. In any case, the release of these new SKUs won't receive any official announcement and will probably go unnoticed by most users, as while the GPUs at the centre of the cards may be different, they've been configured to match the original specs for each graphics card.

If you encounter these devices, don't be surprised if they use a GPU that is different from what Nvidia has officially stated. However, remember that these non-standard SKUs are often only available in select locations.

KitGuru says: These graphics cards should perform roughly the same regardless of whether they feature a different GPU. So, in the end, the GPU used in the card shouldn't affect your decision.

Today we're back with another look at Nvidia's RTX 4070 Super, perhaps the most well-received of the three 40-series Super refreshes that launched at the start of the year. Specifically we are reviewing the Inno3D Twin X2 model, a compact graphics card that aims to deliver a ‘no frills' experience, targeting those who want a quiet and cool-running GPU without added bells and whistles to drive up the price.

You could say that the Inno3D RTX 4070 Super Twin X2 is most notable for the features it lacks, rather than what it offers – there's no RGB for instance, no dual-BIOS, no factory overclock or even the ability to raise the power limit beyond stock figures. Instead, it is very much a ‘throwback' graphics card, prioritising low noise and temperatures while retaining a compact footprint. Coming in at £589.99 here in the UK it is one of the cheapest 4070 Supers on offer, so let's see how it performs.

First, a quick spec recap. Just like the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4070, the new 4070 Super uses a cut-down AD104 die, measuring 295mm2. The fundamental building blocks are still the same of course, with the RTX 4070 Super offering a total of 56 Streaming Multiprocessors (SMs), each housing 256 CUDA Cores, for a total of 7168. We also find 56 RT cores, 224 Tensor cores, 224 Texture Units, and 80 ROPs.

TSMC's N4 node has Nvidia cranking up the clock speed significantly this generation, with the RTX 4070 Super sporting the same 2475MHz rated boost clock as the original model. Inno3D's Twin X2 model we are reviewing does not come factory overclocked.

The memory configuration also remains the same as both the 4070 and 4070 Ti. That means a relatively narrow 192-bit memory interface, so even with 12GB GDDR6X running at 21Gbps, total memory bandwidth comes in at 504 GB/s, lower than the RTX 3070 Ti. That said, there has been a substantial upgrade to the L2 cache with the Ada architecture, with the RTX 4070 now offering 49.1MB, compared to just 6MB for GA102.

Considering the increased core-count, power draw is naturally a touch higher than the RTX 4070, with the 4070 Super boasting a 220W TGP. Inno3D has not increased this out of the box for the Twin X2, and the power limit cannot be manually increased beyond 220W.

Nvidia has made a bunch of announcements this past week at the GDC and GTC conferences. Today, we're getting another one, with Nvidia teaming up with Ubisoft to demonstrate AI-powered NPCs for games.

Game developers are looking towards AI to speed up various processes. The creation of background, NPC characters is at the top of the list. The Nvidia ACE suite has tools for this, allowing developers to quickly generate voiced NPCs with full facial animations. As part of a demo shown at GDC, Ubisoft, Nvidia and Inworld AI teamed up to showcase exactly how this could work for future projects.

Using InWorld's Character Engine and LLM technology, developers can create a knowledge base and conversational style for individual NPCs. Then, Nvidia's Audio2Face tool can be used to quickly generate real-time facial animations based on the voice track.

These NPCs are being referred to as ‘NEO NPCs'. In three demo scenarios, we see these NPCs demonstrate environmental and contextual awareness, reacting in real-time with animations and reactions. With some configuration, NPCs can also have conversation memory and make ‘strategic' decisions.

Speaking on this latest tech demo, Ubisoft's SVP of Production Technology, Guillemette Picard, said: “Gen AI will enable player experiences that are yet to be imagined, with smarter worlds, nuanced characters, and emergent and adaptive narratives. By partnering with NVIDIA on our NEO NPCs prototype: NVIDIA's Audio2Face solution helped us to create deeper immersion through real-time facial animations for truly improvisational NPC conversations.”

The demo goes to show that AI tools are becoming ready for game development production. Some studios are already using AI tools for voice acting. It may not be long before we see AI powering the creation of background characters and quest-giving NPCs.

KitGuru Says: It is clear that AI is here to stay and will be widely used in various creative industries. Given that the timeline for developing AAA games has ballooned to 6+ years with massive budgets, I'm sure publishers are keen to utilise AI wherever possible to speed up development timelines.

We've heard through rumours that Nvidia's next generation graphics architecture will be formally named as ‘Blackwell'. This week at GTC, Nvidia officially announced exactly that, with the Blackwell platform promising to usher in “a new era” of computing.

The Blackwell GPU is based on the TSMC 4NP process and features two reticle-limited dies connected by a 10TB/s chip-to-chip interconnect. The new architecture also features a second generation Transformer Engine, using custom tensor cores to further accelerate AI performance, particularly for LLM and MoE models. NVLink and NVLink Switch are present to pave the way for exascale computing, a new Decompression Engine is in place to accelerate end-to-end analytics for data scientists, and the new Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS) engine can help identify potential faults to minimise downtime.

The Blackwell GPU offers up to 20 petaFLOPS of AI performance, up to 192GB of HBM3e with 8TB/s memory bandwidth and packs a whopping 208 billion transistors. The B200 will be the first Blackwell GPU to ship, and a few tech giants are already lined up to offer the GB200 as part of their services and infrastructure, including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud.

If Blackwell is used for Nvidia's next generation of GeForce gaming graphics cards, we can expect the spec to look significantly different for cards like the RTX 5090, RTX 5080 and so on.

This week, Nvidia announced the launch of its next-generation Blackwell GPU architecture, designed for data centres and AI acceleration. The first Blackwell GPU, the B100, is going to be made available this year, with the likes of Microsoft, Amazon and Google already lining up to secure the GPU for their datacentres. There isn't much for gamers to get excited about here, but Blackwell is also rumoured to be the architecture behind next-gen GeForce graphics cards. It is expected that the GB202 GPU will be used for the RTX 5090, and it should be based on the TSMC 4N node, much like its predecessor, but with some new improvements in place.

According to Kopite7kimi, Nvidia will use the TSMC 4NP node for new-gen GeForce graphics cards. For clarification, TSMC 4N is an Nvidia-specific 5nm node, but with some tweaks, the transistor density may have been improved by as much as 30 percent.

The same leaker also hinted at a change in the L1 cache for the Blackwell GB202 gaming GPU, which should significantly improve over AD102 and GA102 (both had a 128KB size). This change is expected to increase the throughput of every single Streaming Multiprocessor.

The GB202 GPU is likely to be the flagship chip in the RTX 50 series. Rumours suggest it may have 192 Streaming Multiprocessors (SMs) and a 512-bit memory bus. Further speculations say that GB203 specifications might be half of what GB202 offers, implying it will have 96 SMs and half the memory bus width compared to the GB202 model.

KitGuru says: We're still quite a ways off from seeing new-generation GeForce graphics cards, especially given that RTX 40 Super only just launched in February. With that in mind, all information at this stage should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Ahead of the annual Game Developers Conference, Nvidia has announced a lengthy list of games – both old and upcoming – which are set to be further enhanced by its RTX capabilities; with the likes of Diablo IV set to get ray-traced reflections and shadows in just a few short weeks.

Making the announcement on their blog, the Nvidia team announced its latest set of RTX updates, saying “Over 500 RTX games and applications have revolutionized how people game and create with ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS and AI-powered technologies. Today, we’re unveiling even more RTX games that will deliver the definitive PC experience for GeForce RTX gamers.”

With that, they revealed that the much-anticipated UE5-powered Black Myth: Wukong will launch with full path tracing alongside the company’s latest DLSS 3.5 upon the game’s release this August.

Interestingly, it won’t just be new games which will take advantage of DLSS 3.5, as the melee-focused multiplayer Battle Royale Naraka: Bladepoint is set to be updated with path-tracing support alongside DLSS 3.5 ray reconstruction for maximal visual quality at a heavily reduced performance cost.

As mentioned above, Diablo IV is surprisingly being updated to support ray tracing. While not quite the full path-traced experience, the update – arriving on the 26th of March – will add ray-traced reflections; ray-traced transparent reflections and ray-traced shadows.

Though perhaps not quite as transformative as full path tracing, the update should enhance Diablo IV’s moody aesthetic even further.

Although Nvidia's Blackwell GPU line-up should be mostly similar to Ada in terms of memory specifications, the flagship seems to be the exception. Instead of a 384-bit memory bus like the one used on the AD102 GPU, the successor, the GB202, is expected to feature a 512-bit memory bus.

Not long ago, kopite7kimi stated that the Blackwell GPU lineup would have the same memory buses as the Ada lineup. However, the leaker didn't clarify that the GB202 flagship GPU would be an exception. According to kopite7kimi, the GB202 will feature a 512-bit memory bus instead.

Moreover, the same leaker added that the second-tiered GPU, codenamed GB203, might have half as many cores as GB202, rumoured to pack 192 SMs in a multi-chip package. As such, the GB203 would pack 96 SMs (likely a monolithic design), and for the memory, it will stick to a 256-bit memory bus, which is also half of what the GB202 packs. As such, there might not be any GB20x GPU with a 384-bit bus.

These are all rumours for now, as no concrete evidence of Nvidia's Blackwell GPU plans has been presented, nor has Nvidia made any official announcements.

KitGuru says: If these rumours are proven correct, we'll see an even bigger difference in CUDA cores between the x02 and x03 Blackwell GPUs than in the Ada line-up. How do you think this will translate into the RTX 50 series graphics cards?

The annual Game Developers Conference is kicking off on Monday but Nvidia has a few new RTX related announcements going live ahead of the event. This month, even more games are getting RTX features. Diablo 4 will soon get ray-traced graphics, Star Wars Outlaws has been confirmed for ray-tracing and DLSS 3 at launch, while other previously released titles are getting upgrades to their Nvidia-specific features as well.

Black Myth: Wukong and Naraka: Bladepoint are both upgrading with full ray tracing and DLSS 3.5, which includes ray-reconstruction technology for better ray-traced visuals with upscaling turned on. Diablo 4, a game that already supports DLSS 3, will be getting a graphics upgrade on March 26th with ray-traced effects, although Blizzard has yet to confirm if it is only implementing shadows/reflections, or if it is going bigger with GI effects.

Star Wars Outlaws, touted as the very first true open-world Star Wars game, is set to be one of the biggest releases of the year. The game will launch with DLSS 3 for super-charged performance on RTX 40 series graphics cards, and it will include ray-traced graphics.

Portal with RTX, the fully path-traced remake of Valve's classic puzzle shooter, is now available for free, with an upgrade to DLSS 3.5 with Ray Reconstruction. Unfortunately, there is no update on the Half-Life 2 RTX project but hopefully we'll hear about that again later in the year.

Portal with RTX now also benefits from RTX IO, enabling faster GPU-based loading and asset decompression, so textures should load faster and some of the load will be taken off of your storage drive.

Some other tidbits being announced today include:

 • Sengoku Dynasty – in early access now with DLSS 3. At 4K, max settings, DLSS 3 multiplies frame rates by an average of 2X, enabling the GeForce RTX 4070 to comfortably exceed 60FPS. And on faster GPUs performance surpasses 100FPS, topping out at 160FPS on the GeForce RTX 4090.
 • Outcast – A New Beginning – launches March 15th With DLSS 2 & DLAA.
 • The First Berserker: Khazan – launches soon with NVIDIA DLSS 3 and Reflex.
 • NVIDIA RTX Remix Open Beta – DLSS 3.5 with Ray Reconstruction is coming soon, enabling all modders to upgrade their work.
 • The Finals – Season 2 launches today March 14 and includes DLSS 3, RTXGI, and Reflex.

Resizable BAR is a useful feature that can improve GPU performance. The catch is that enabling it is restricted to newer-gen systems. On the Nvidia side, you need at least an RTX 30 series GPU to activate it, but a new mod will enable the use of ReBar on GTX series and RTX 20 series graphics cards.

Although the ReBarUEFI utility can patch the UEFI firmware to enable this capability on a wider range of motherboards, it doesn't increase the range of GPUs that can run ReBAR. However, there's good news for those using GTX 16 and RTX 20 series GPUs. As noted by Wccftech, modders have created a new solution named NvStrapsReBar for the GeForce GTX 16 and RTX 20 series that allows you to run ReBAR on these GPUs. Unfortunately, Nvidia's GTX 10 series isn't supported.

Various configurations were tried, and the Resizable BAR support seems to be working. The complete guide to using this mod can be found on its GitHub page. However, considering the minimal gains ReBAR offers, you should at least consider whether it's worth installing the mod.

Nvidia is unlikely to develop a solution for enabling ReBAR on GTX 10/16/RTX 20 cards, so this may be the only option for those looking to activate the feature.

Contrary to previous rumours, it looks like the memory buses of the Nvidia RTX 50 series won't be much different from what we've seen in the RTX 30 and 40 series. Based on recent reports, the flagship GB202 GPU will feature a 384-bit memory bus, just like its predecessors. However, the memory will be considerably faster, running at 28 Gbps.

According to Kopite7kimi, the RTX 50 series will not feature a 512-bit memory bus, which had previously been hinted at. Instead, the flagship RTX 50 GPU, known as GB202, will retain the same 384-bit memory bus configuration of the RTX 3090 and RTX 4090. In fact, the entire ‘Blackwell' family of GPUs is expected to have memory bus specifications similar to those of Ampere and ADA.

Although the memory bus specifications for the RTX 50 series may not see a significant upgrade, it's expected that the memory will. We already know Nvidia will use GDDR7 memory on the upcoming GPUs, but it's still unclear at what speed it will operate. However, according to Kopite7kimi, the VRAM will run at 28 Gbps, up from 21–23 Gbps from the RTX 40 series cards using GDDR6X memory. Assuming a similar memory configuration on the RTX 50 series, maximum memory bandwidth would increase by up to 33%.

The Blackwell GPUs are said to feature TSMC's N3 node and DisplayPort 2.1. The line-up is expected to be led by the GB202 GPU, which is rumoured to feature up to 24,000 CUDA cores.

Nvidia has launched a new option for gamers who have yet to try the GeForce Now Ultimate tier. Instead of committing to a monthly subscription, users can now opt for Day Passes, which allow them to stream games for a day.

The Day Passes for the Priority and Ultimate levels cost $3.99 and $7.99, respectively. Once paid, gamers can access GeForce Now for 24 hours. As a reminder, the Priority and Ultimate levels offer different streaming options. While the Ultimate level allows 4K/120FPS streaming for up to 8 hours, the Priority level only supports 1080p/60FPS streaming for up to 6 hours.

In addition to the new daily membership, Nvidia also added various games to the service, including The Thaumaturge, Classified: France '44, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, Winter Survival, Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator, Zoria: Age of Shattering, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, and Undisputed.

The new Cloud G-Sync variable refresh rate technology is now available for Windows and macOS users. However, this feature requires a G-Sync-compatible, FreeSync, or Apple ProMotion display and a machine with at least a GeForce GTX 16 or an RTX GPU. Additionally, Nvidia introduced support for Reflex for 60 and 120FPS streaming options.

There is chatter that Nvidia is in the process of discontinuing the GTX 16 series of GPUs, bringing an end for the Turing generation and possibly marking the end of GTX graphics cards, as Nvidia now places far more focus on its RTX line-up.

Over at the Board Channels Forum (via VideoCardz), it has been stated that the GTX 16 series line-up will not be restocked. This news is unsurprising, as it has been rumoured since December 2023 that Nvidia was planning to discontinue the series in Q1 2024 due to its lack of ray tracing and DLSS acceleration functionality. The GTX 16 series may also be the last iteration of the GTX branding, as Nvidia has fully transitioned to the RTX branding.

The GTX 1650 and GTX 1630 were the last models to be launched on the market, following previous iterations such as the GTX 16 Super variants, which have also been discontinued. As a result, the RTX 20 series will now become the lowest tier in the Nvidia gaming GPU line-up. The new entry-level models are the RTX 2050 for the mobile segment and the RTX 3050 6GB for the desktop market.

Despite the discontinuation of the GTX 16 series, Nvidia will continue to release new drivers for these graphics cards. Currently, the company supports the GTX 700 series, indicating that it is unlikely that support for the GTX 16 series will be removed anytime soon. However, finding these cards at retailers will probably become increasingly difficult as final stocks deplete.

If you own an Nvidia graphcis card, it is time to update those drivers. The latest Game Ready graphics driver update has dropped, landing alongside news of Horizon: Forbidden West's incoming PC port, which will launch with DLSS 3 support on day-one for multiplied performance on RTX 40-series graphics cards.

We've already covered Horizon Forbidden West's PC launch announcement. The game is coming on the 21st of March and will have support for both DLSS 3, DLSS 2, and Nvidia Reflex at launch. Those with RTX 30 or older GPUs can benefit from DLSS 2, using upscaling techniques to improve frame rates, while those on RTX 40 GPUs can benefit from DLSS 3, which adds in Frame Generation to boost frame rates further at the cost of latency. To counter the additional latency, Nvidia Reflex is provided, which reduces the latency of your entire system for more responsive controls in-game.

Endnight Games’ The Forest was an incredibly popular open-world survival and crafting game. Their critically acclaimed follow-up, Sons Of The Forest, recently exited Early Access with a massive content update and now, the game also supports DLSS 2 for RTX graphics card users looking for a frame rate boost. Mortal Kombat 1, Reveil and Hellbreach: Vegas are several other titles getting DLSS support this week.

Finally, there is also a new GeForce Game Ready driver available to download. The new driver implements day-one support for Thaumaturge, which launches with support for DLSS 3 and Nvidia Reflex this week.

Over 500 games and apps now use RTX technologies, providing GeForce RTX graphics card owners with a better PC gaming experience. Every week, new blockbuster games and indie releases hit the market featuring DLSS, Reflex, and ray-traced effects, and this week is no different than the others.

One of the latest releases to feature DLSS 2 is Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake by Avantgarden SRL and 505 Games. GeForce players can look forward to up to three times faster GPU performance, with frame rates increased by 2.9X on average at 4K with DLSS and all settings maximised. This allows the GeForce RTX to achieve impressive results, with the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super and 4080 Super surpassing 100 FPS and the RTX 4090 exceeding 150 FPS.

At 1440p, performance is increased by 2.3X on average, ensuring that all GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs operate at or above 60 FPS, with the GeForce RTX 4090 leading the way at 190 FPS. At 1080p, average performance is increased by 2.1X, making it possible for all GeForce RTX 40 Series players to achieve over 100 FPS at maximum settings.

Nvidia Reflex is also gaining popularity, and many more games are expected to feature this technology by 2024. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and Escape from Tarkov: Arena were the latest to adopt the technology, reducing system latency by up to 48% and 36%, respectively. New Reflex gaming mice, including the Alienware Pro wireless, the NZXT Lift 2 Ergo, and the NZXT Lift 2 Symm, are also available. As such, these mice can measure and record end-to-end system latency, from click to game to display, using Nvidia Reflex (alongside a compatible monitor).

Soon, Microsoft will simplify the process with DirectSR, allowing developers to easily enable multiple upscaling technologies from multiple vendors for broader support.

The post Microsoft DirectSR super resolution API will enable devs to easily implement DLSS, FSR, XeSS and other features first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Microsoft has recently shared more details on their upcoming game developer API, DirectSR. Contrary to initial claims, this is not a new super-resolution technology but a tool that will allow for seamless integration of current super-resolution technologies, like DLSS, FSR and XeSS, as well as any future versions.

The most prevalent upscaling solution on the market is Nvidia DLSS, which is proprietary and hardware-locked to GeForce RTX GPUs. Then there's the AMD FSR, which is open-source, and Intel XeSS, which was never published as open-source, despite Intel's claims. Unreal Engine's TSR is another alternative, albeit not as widely adopted. All these must be implemented one at a time if a game developer wants its game to support a specific SR technology. However, DirectSR may change that soon.

To make temporal upscaling easier to implement in games, DirectSR enables multi-vendor super-resolution through a standard set of inputs and outputs, allowing a single code path to activate all the super-resolution technologies the developer chooses. That would allow developers to make their games support Nvidia DLSS Super Resolution, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution and Intel XeSS. Microsoft didn't mention Unreal Engine's TSR, but that may change later.

Nvidia had previously attempted to simplify temporal upscaling with its Streamline framework, but it made little impact as such technologies were closely integrated with each game developer. Developed with the help of key GPU suppliers such as Nvidia and AMD, DirectSR will be demonstrated by these companies in March at GDC 2024. As for its availability, DirectSR will be available soon in the Agility SDK as a public preview.

Nvidia’s GeForce Now remains one of the most popular game streaming services, with over 1,800 titles currently available to stream from your PC library. That said, the service has historically only worked with a select number of storefronts – though this has slowly changed over time. The latest PC client joining the service is Activision’s Battle.net launcher.

Making the announcement via their blog, Nvidia revealed that its GeForce Now Streaming service is being expanded, saying:

“Stream the first titles from Blizzard Entertainment’s Battle.net, including Diablo IV, Overwatch 2, Call of Duty HQ and Hearthstone, now playable across more devices than ever.”

While the selection of Battle net titles remains somewhat small, Nvidia has added new games to the service on a weekly basis; meaning Battle net’s full library should be supported sooner rather than later.

Considering the fact that ABK’s launcher only has two-dozen titles to its name, this hopefully won’t take too long at all.

As much as I've been enjoying Helldivers 2 recently, there are some improvements that can be made. The server situation is finally starting to clear up, but on the visual side, we are still limited to what appears to be FSR 1.0 for upscaling. In our review of the game, I pointed out that the addition of DLSS, Intel XeSS and newer versions of FSR wouldn't go amiss. Unfortunately, it sounds like we won't be getting those updates anytime soon.

The team at Arrowhead has primarily had to focus on fixing up the server situation so more players can log in and play simultaneously. Server capacity has been increasing recently and the game now supports over 800,000 concurrent players. Now, Arrowhead is looking towards new content and gameplay improvements, rather than lingering on the technical side of the game.

In response to fan questions about the addition of DLSS or FSR 3, Arrowhead CEO, Johan Pilestedt, stated that his focus right now is on gameplay, rather than implementing cool new tech. PC Focus took this to mean that DLSS would not be coming to Helldivers 2 at all, but Pilestedt quickly responded to deny this. In a reply to another user in the thread, he clarified that while he loves “DLSS and other performance boosting tech”, when the decision comes down to “more awesome content vs more tech”, he would prefer to put the resources into the gameplay/content side.

Arrowhead is a small studio but with the popularity of Helldivers 2 at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia, AMD or Intel reached out to offer some support in implementing these features to help them get there faster. Hopefully by the end of this year, the team will have features like DLSS and newer versions of FSR implemented.

While newer versions of DLSS and FSR are easier to implement in engines like Unity and Unreal Engine thanks to plug-ins, Helldivers 2 is actually developed on an older engine, Stingray, which is no longer supported by the company that created it. As a result, bringing these features to Helldivers 2 would likely take more development time compared to other modern games.

KitGuru Says: Helldivers 2 runs very smoothly and looks fantastic in its current state but those who are struggling to run the game would very much benefit from the visual and performance improvements that newer upscaling methods bring. The focus is on content for now but once the ball is rolling on that, I do hope Arrowhead revisits this.

GeForce Now has had a free tier for a long time, allowing users to stream their PC games over the cloud at limited quality settings. Free tier users also typically sit in a queue for a server slot, while paid subscribers can get straight in. In an update soon, the GeForce Now free tier will soon include ads that play during the server queue process.

Speaking with The Verge, Nvidia has confirmed that the GeForce Now free tier will soon include video ads. These advertisements will play for up to two minutes while the user sits in the queue for server access. The hope on Nvidia's side is that this new system will help “reduce average wait times” for free tier users.

While the GeForce Now free tier is good for being able to quickly test cloud streaming across your devices, the limitations are fairly significant. You don't get the same number of quality settings as a paid subscriber, you do usually have to wait a short period of time for a free server slot to open up and your cloud game time is also limited to one-hour sessions.

By comparison, the GeForce Now Priority and Ultimate tiers offer much longer online play sessions, a broader range of quality settings for those with the connection to support higher resolutions and frame rates, and you get access to more powerful server hardware for playing games. If you haven't used one of Nvidia's premium tiers, I must say they are very impressive, particularly the RTX 4080 servers, which offer the best cloud streaming experience currently on the market.

Those who are signed up for GeForce Now's free tier can expect an email from Nvidia this week confirming the new video advertisement system.

KitGuru Says: Do you use GeForce Now's free tier? How do you feel about the addition of ads to the service? While I wouldn't blame anyone for feeling disappointed, the reality is these datacentres cost money to run and by monetising the free tier servers, Nvidia should be able to provide quicker and broader access.

Back in November, we learned that Nvidia saw massive growth from the sales of its AI accelerators, leading to a huge $18.4 billion in revenue for the quarter. Now, Nvidia has published its Q4 results and somehow, more records have been shattered.

Nvidia's Q3 revenue for the year grew by a massive 206 percent year-on-year. For Q4, there is an even bigger jump, with a 409 percent year-on-year increase for its datacentre arm. In total, Nvidia's Datacentre business generated $18.4 billion in Q4 and the company as a whole generated $22.1 billion.

By contrast, the sales of gaming-oriented products like RTX GPUs, generated $2.9 billion in revenue during the quarter, which is consistent with its sales during Q3. While we didn't see growth here from Q3 to Q4, Nvidia does note that this is a 56% increase from Q4 year-on-year.

Overall, Nvidia made $60.9 billion for the year, which is a 126 percent increase compared to the previous year. Speaking on the growth Nvidia has seen, CEO, Jensen Huang, points out that the booming accelerated computing and AI markets are the big drivers, but adds that Nvidia RTX, which only launched in 2018, is now a “massive PC platform for generative AI”.

Nvidia launched new RTX 40 Super graphics cards this year, and, based on the company's usual release cadence, should be on track to launch next-gen GeForce graphics cards in either late 2024 or early 2025.

The RTX 4070 Super has been out for just a few weeks. At its launch MSRP of £579, we found it to be the best value RTX 40-series card available but surprisingly, prices are already starting to drop a bit.

While the Founder's Edition RTX 4070 Super carries the MSRP price tag of £579, most custom-cooled cards from board partners do sell at higher prices. In the case of the Zotac RTX 4070 Super Twin Edge graphics card though, you can save money over the MSRP price.

Currently on Overclockers UK, this RTX 4070 Super model is selling for £539.99, around £40 lower than the MSRP price, making it one of the most wallet-friendly RTX 4070 cards available at the moment.

The RTX 4070 Super first launched in mid January, offering nice boost over the original RTX 4070, offering about 15% more performance for the same money – and you can see our full review HERE.

There are several big games launching this week and as usual, Nvidia is prepared with a GeForce Game Ready graphics driver. The latest GeForce driver brings support for new releases like Skull and Bones, which finally lands on PC and consoles this week after a decade of development.

The latest GeForce graphics driver brings day-one optimisations for Ubisoft's pirate multiplayer game, Skull and Bones, which we first saw at E3 many years ago. The game will be launching with ray-traced graphics options, as well as support for DLSS 2 so RTX graphics card owners can save some performance.

Other notable games releasing this week include Smalland: Survive the Wilds, which launches on February 15th with DLSS 2. Additionally, Don't Nod's next game, Banishers: Ghosts of Eden, is available as of today with support for Nvidia Reflex, DLAA and DLSS 3.

With all the settings maxed out at 4K with DLSS 3 on, you'll get over 100FPS with an RTX 4070 and the numbers only go up from there. The RTX 4080 for instance can hit over 150FPS with DLSS 3 switched on and the RTX 4090 approaches 190FPS.

The latest GeForce Game Ready driver is now available to download via the GeForce Experience.

Here we give the low down on this new tool and its capabilities.

The post Nvidia launches Chat with RTX – a locally run, offline and customisable AI chatbot first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
ChatGPT took the world by storm in 2023 but now we're getting to a point where AI-powered chat applications can be installed and run locally, without needing an online connection. Nvidia is bringing offline AI chatting to millions of RTX powered PCs today with the launch of Chat with RTX.

Chat with RTX was first announced in January. The app uses Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), in conjunction with TensorRT-LLM, which users can customise by granting access to specified files and folders. Running locally, Chat with RTX can pull information from text, PDF, doc and XML files, so you can swiftly have the app retrieve data for you. There is also a YouTube transcript function, so you can paste in a YouTube playlist and have the app generate a local transcript. You can then ask the bot questions about the content to sift through what you need.

I've had access to Chat with RTX for a few days already. The initial download is substantial, coming in at over 30GB, and the final install size can be as high as 100GB, depending on the AI models you have installed. To start off with, Chat with RTX will have access to two AI models, Mistral and Llama. The former is a model created by ex Meta and Google employees, while the latter is a model created and released by Meta.

Installing the app takes some time. On my system with a Ryzen 9 5900X and RTX 4080, the install took around 20 minutes, with the LLM install taking the longest amount of time. The install time can take as much as one hour depending on your internet connection and hardware. After the installer wraps up though, loading up the app takes very little time and works impressively quick considering it is running locally.

As the app runs offline, you don't run the risk of exposing your sensitive data online, and you have greater control over what the AI has access to and can pull from. In its base form, Chat with RTX only has access to the RAG folder it comes with, so it can answer some basic questions regarding Nvidia RTX products and features, but won't be able to go beyond that. With that in mind, you'll want to point the app to your own dataset folder.

The most obvious use case to me is as an office assistant, being able to quickly bring up information needed for a task without having to do a manual search. For editors, being able to pull in YouTube transcripts accurately will also save a lot of time. Transcribing a single video takes less than a minute, but as this portion of the app does require contacting servers, the speed may vary depending on how many active users there are, as well as your own internet connection. It will be interesting to see if there is any noticeable slowdown now that the app is widely available for all users.

For local data processing, Chat with RTX is not meant to be a ChatGPT replacement. The app works by breaking down data into chunks, which are then selected based on relevance to your query. So it works well for quickly finding specific facts present in documents, but it doesn't work well for tasks that require ‘reasoning', like summarising a set of documents into key bullet points.

Chat with RTX also does not currently have the ability to remember context, so you won't be able to ask follow-up questions based on your original query. Whether or not this functionality will change over time remains to be seen, but running machine learning and massive data sets locally isn't exactly feasible for the majority of users.

Chat with RTX can be downloaded directly from the Nvidia website. You will need an RTX 3000 or RTX 4000 series graphics card to run the application.

The RTX 2000 is the latest addition to the Nvidia RTX Ada workstation desktop graphics card line-up. This will be the new entry-level GPU in Nvidia's workstation range, packing 16GB of VRAM and a $625 price tag.

Nvidia's seventh workstation desktop GPU, the RTX 2000 ADA, boasts a low-profile and compact form factor design, similar to the RTX 4000 SFF. Thanks to its design, it eliminates the need for additional power connections. This GPU is incredibly efficient, with a power limit of just 70W.

Compared to the RTX 4000's AD104 GPU with 6144 cores, the RTX 2000 ADA has 2816 CUDA cores. The RTX 2000 ADA replaces the RTX 2000 (Ampere), which has 12GB of video memory. Contrary to rumours, the RTX 2000 ADA has 16GB of GDDR6 memory instead of just 8GB. Unfortunately, the GPU's memory bus is limited to 128-bit, offering a maximum memory bandwidth of 224 GB/s.

Some performance metrics shared by Nvidia suggest the new RTX 2000 card offers up to 70% more performance than its predecessor in ray tracing workloads, up to 80% in AI throughput, and up to 50% more in FP32 throughput.

The RTX 2000 ADA goes for $625 before taxes. Arrow Electronics, Ingram Micro, Leadtek, PNY, Ryoyo Electro, and TD Synnex will be the first to have the new workstation desktop card available. Dell, HP, and Lenovo will start selling it in April.

One of the most surprising things with Nvidia's latest generation of gaming graphics cards was the size and weight increase. With the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, graphics cards are bigger than ever, sporting massive heatsinks that rival what you would find inside of a dedicated games console. Some versions of these graphics cards have unfortunately suffered issues like PCB cracks, but Gigabyte is rectifying this situation for its customers.

Gigabyte is updating the PCB on its RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards. With the new revision 1.1 for both cards, Gigabyte has swapped to a wider PCB design with more space around the PCIe connector, following reports from users that noticed cracks forming in the PCB around the power connector.

This redesigned PCB will be found on newer SKU versions of Gigabyte RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards, as well as on the new RTX 4080 Super, which just launched a couple of weeks ago. Buyers on Reddit (via PCGN) were quick to pick up on the revision and its changes.

Many RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 graphics cards use the same cooler designs, despite the fact that the RTX 4080 doesn't run quite as hot as an RTX 4090. This has led to some impressively quiet high-end RTX 4080s, but the trade-off is that PC builders need to be more mindful while building. Utilising a GPU support bracket is practically a must for this latest round of graphics cards, or alternatively, you could mount your GPU vertically if your case supports it.
