SteelSeries 5H V2 Medal of Honor Gaming Headset Review

While the SteelSeries 5H V2 doesn't offer the same level of comfort as the Siberia V2, it is still pretty comfortable to wear for long periods of time provided you adjust the headband correctly.  The headband also features padding on the inside which presses against the top of your head to spread the weight of the headset evenly across your head.

SteelSeries have chosen to use cloth covered earpads for the 5H V2 which are more comfortable to use for long periods of time than the leatherette ones that feature on the Siberia V2.  If you want to be able to choose between cloth and leatherette earpads, the SteelSeries 7H has interchangeable support.

First of all we decided to test the gaming performance of the 5H V2 and we thought it appropriate to start our tests with Medal of Honor.  Sound panning was about as good as you can expect from a stereo headset but we're sure the USB version of the 5H V2 would offer a better experience as it features 7.1 virtual surround sound.  We found that the sound balance was well suited to FPS gaming.

Movie playback performance was also good for a stereo headset and the deep bass notes in the opening sequence of The Dark Knight had great presence and the sound panning was also impressive.  We also found the 5H V2 to be quite good for listening to music, as the sound is clear, but we definitely feel that the Siberia V2 is better suited to music playback.
