BT Smart Home Cam 100 review

I found the BT Smart Home Cam 100 to be a decent piece of kit. At £100, it feels like it is priced relatively well.

There are some cheaper alternatives, but most do not come with the features that the BT Smart Home Cam 100 does. It is a decent quality, well connected, cloud accessible, smart looking camera that offers a few different mounting options and picks up even the smallest of movements.

It is probably too sensitive to use as a baby monitor or pet tracker, as you are likely to get warning notices every few seconds – but as a security system it should work nicely.

I would like to see BT release an outdoor version too, as you could then create a complete security network with the same quality feed. For future versions too, I would suggest BT (and other home security camera providers) send them out with much longer AC cables. While three meters gives you some leeway, a quality five to eight meter cable wouldn't cost a lot more and could be easily hidden away if not needed, while opening up many more options for mounting.

As great as the BT Smart Home Cam 100 is it may be best to wait until the company has settled on an ongoing price for its cloud storage platform. The representatives we spoke with didn't know the cost at time of publication. For now, the free trial will simply continue until a decision is made, but it would be a shame to buy this camera with its premium features in mind, only to see BT discontinue it in the near future, or announce an expensive monthly subscription.

Currently the BT Smart Home Cam can be found on the official BT store for £100.
