Samsung debuts 4K 28” display for $699: low-cost UHD displays are reality

Samsung Electronics has introduced its new display that combines relatively low price with ultra-high-definition. The Samsung U28D590D offers 3840*2160 resolution as well as relatively low price of $699. Unfortunately, the novelty is based on a TN panel that many consider to be a moderate choice.

Samsung U28D590D is a 28” display that offers 4K resolution, 170°/160° viewing angles, 370cd/m2 brightness, 1 billion colours as well as 1ms (grey-to-grey) response time. The novelty has two HDMI and one DisplayPort inputs. Samsung did not reveal refresh rate of the display in 3840*2160 resolution, but it is logical to expect 30Hz – 60Hz, which should be enough for movies, but not enough for video games.

The monitor features modern look with a metal finish and is constructed from high-quality metal materials. It has an understated T-shape stand designed to take up less space, making the picture even more prominent. The tilt function lets users adjust the monitor to the most comfortable viewing level.

The UD590 monitor is available for pre-order now for an MSRP of $699.99. The pricing for Europe and the U.K. has not been announced.

KitGuru Says: It looks like this year we will only see affordable 4K displays with TN panels only. More advanced *VA, IPS and PLS panels are more expensive and therefore will be used for reasonably-priced UHD displays only next year.
