Microsoft release security package, free download

Microsoft are urging their customers to download a free security software package from their website, in order to protect PC's from a newly discovered vulnerability in Internet Explorer. The company have said it will advise customers to install the software as part of an ‘interim measure'.

This in effect will buy Microsoft some time to fix the issue properly, then subsequently release a new version of Internet Explorer for the masses.

The free security package is called the Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET), and it is designed to prevent hackers from gaining access to Windows based systems. You can snag it from the Microsoft official website over here.

Recently security researcher Eric Romang discovered a zero day vulnerability in Internet Explorer, which he said will affect fully patched versions of Internet Explorer 7, 8 and 9.

Kitguru says: Worth snagging a copy, especially if you actively use IE daily.
