Samsung plan to go head to head with Apples mini iPad

The Apple iPad has been a huge success story for Apple, KitGuru rated the device very highly indeed when we reviewed it months ago.

News reached KitGuru weeks ago that Apple were planned to make a 7 inch version of the iPad to appeal to users who find the 9.7 bulk too much for their pockets. This would not just be a shrunken version, but would instead feature the new, stunningly quick Cortex A9 processor and a new inplane switching LCD display.

According to our sources in Taipei, it appears that Samsung Electronics are already preempting this market with the release of a new tablet PC called the Galaxy Tab. We can tongue in cheek puns such as ‘out of this world' and ‘from a galaxy far away' already making the marketing posters.

The iPad prototype from 1983

The Galaxy Tab is set for its first appearance at IFA 2010 which is held from September the 3rd to the 8th in Berlin, Germany. The Galaxy Tab is to feature the Android 2.2 operating system and a 7 inch display to directly target any release from Apple. The tablet market is a high focal point for Samsung with reports that they aim to ship 100,000 tablet PC's per month at the start.
