EA goes Humble with a new bundle

EA Games might not be everyone's favourite company, but it's trying to turn that image around. No not with some big new advertising campaign, but by writing a cheque to charity, using its games to fund it. Teaming up with the guys at Humble Bundle, EA is offering a  huge list of games, representing some really impressive value, all using the standard pay what you want model. Instead of taking a cut however, everything you spend on this bundle goes straight to five big charities.

Ok so your interest is a little peaked, whether you personally splash out, depends on the games, right? Well here's what's on offer: Dead Space, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Crysis 2: Maximum Edition, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space 3 and Medal of Honor – all available to those that spend at least $1. However, bump it up and beat the average of just $4.74 (at the time of writing) and you'll also get Battlefield 3 and The Sims 3 + Starter Pack, which includes the “Stuff” and “Late Night” expansions.

All games are of course redeemable through Origin, but a few of them can be added to your Steam library too. However, counter to the usual Humble Indie Bundle traditions, these games will not be DRM free.

The charity part of the rhyme is still going strong however, as there's five to choose from and you can customise where your funds go. Supported charities this time around include: Human Rights Campaign, Watsi, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross and San Francisco Aids Foundation.

Even if all of that doesn't sway you to splash out a few dollars for the kids, how about a bit of peer pressure? This is the fastest selling bundle of all time, by far. Despite having only been available for a few short hours, the Humble Origin Bundle has been sold over 678,000 times, equating to over $3 million donated to the assembled charities. And all of this even with the low average price. Chances are as that average purchase price rises, we'll start seeing that number fly up.
