Gigabyte demo 2000W CPU socket power delivery

How do you best demonstrate what 32-phases of power regulation can do? Well, if you’re Gigabyte, you hook up a pair of 1200W power supplies and wire up the board to three DC load testers and pull an insane 2000W through the CPU socket.

According to Gigabyte, this is enough power to power 25 Core i7-3770K CPUs. As you might’ve gathered, you won’t actually be able to pull 2000W, but Gigabyte is simply trying to demonstrate how good their new Ultra Durable 5 motherboard design using PowIRstage’s is compared to their previous models.

The demo is of course also intended to get overclockers interested in the upcoming Z77X-UP7, as technically this is an OC board, even though Gigabyte has dropped the OC branding. It’s also the first sneak peek of the final board design, which has changed since Computex and we’re now looking at a black and orange board with a new heatsink design.

As far as we’re aware, no major changes were made in terms of features or functionality since Computex, but the final design looks pretty snazzy.
