EA to release SimCity for mobile devices

It seems that EA is having another crack at mobile gaming as the publisher just announced SimCity Buildit, an app for iOS and Android devices. This will be the first high profile mobile release from the company since the disaster that was Dungeon Keeper.

EA says that the app will let players create, build and craft cities: “Whether you're a savvy city planner or a strategic mastermind, take control and have fun wherever you are,” the official description reads.

EA claims that SimCity Buildit is “an all-new SimCity game like you've never seen before, designed for gamers on the go.”

“The choices you make evolve your city in a variety of ways. Meet your citizens needs to keep them happy, or make questionable choices and feel your citisens' wrath. Pinch, zoom, and rotate 360 degrees as you manage your city in the palm of your hand. With countless buildings and vivid, 3D-quality graphics, it's the most advanced mobile building simulation game.”

It's a Sims game so it will undoubtedly attract a large group of players. However, one thing EA has neglected to shed light on is the app's monetization methods, hopefully the publisher will have learned a thing or two from the Dungeon Keeper backlash.

KitGuru Says: EA isn't a trusted company as it is, let alone in the mobile gaming space. We will have to wait and see if the publisher has improved its monetization methods after the Dungeon Keeper backlash but chances are, most gamers will remain skeptical.
