EA will be releasing a new Battlefield game this year

EA might be pushing Battlefield into a yearly cycle as the publisher has announced Battlefield: Hardline, a spin off game focusing on the police force, developed by Visceral Games. The title will get its official reveal at E3 this year but we've already seen some leaked footage.

Battlefield Hardline will be a shift in tone for the series as it is “set against the backdrop of a genre we all love – the war on crime and the battle between cops and criminals.” Usually DICE handles all things Battlefield related but this time around, Dead Space developer, Visceral Games, is taking charge.

Visceral’s VP and GM Steve Papoutsis, explained how the spin-off title came to be:

“Several years ago, I was at an internal EA meeting in Barcelona with creative leaders from across the company. It was there I met Karl Magnus Troedsson, the GM of DICE, for the first time, and we immediately began talking about games – I’ve always loved Battlefield and KM was a huge fan of Dead Space, which I was working on at the time”, he said. ” We started talking about different ways we could work together, different ways we could take Battlefield and action games in a new direction. It was then that this project that became Battlefield Hardline was born.”

More will be revealed at E3 on the 9th of June, where EA will be showing off several other secret projects. We will also get to see more on DICE's upcoming Star Wars title, Battlefront III.

KitGuru Says: A fresh take on the series from a new developer might help bring back some fans who were turned off by the whole Battlefield 4 fiasco. E3 is shaping up to be a pretty exciting event this year. Will you guys be giving Visceral's Battlefield game a chance?
