Spotify comes to the PS4 and PS3 today

PlayStation Music Unlimited is officially dead and has now been taken over by Spotify on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Over the last six months, Sony has been working with Spotify to build its debut console app.

The console app will be available to free Spotify users as well as Premium customers. As you would expect, premium subscribers will get the service ad-free, along with the option to stream tracks at a higher bit-rate. The app itself is designed to fit in with the console's user interface.

For now, Spotify will be exclusive to Sony's consoles and there is no word on an Xbox release.

The app is missing one pretty big feature at the moment though, the ability to access your own custom playlists is non-existent, which seems like a pretty bad oversight. The radio feature is also missing at launch, although that may also come eventually.

While custom playlists are missing, you will be able to listen to Spotify's own curated playlists. If you need to skip a song while in the middle of a game, then you don't need to back out and open up the app again, you can instead hold down the home button and use the basic play/pause/skip controls.

KitGuru Says: There have been times in the past where I've wanted a Spotify app on my console, although I'm an Xbox user so I'll be missing out on this one. Do any of you guys use Spotify? Have you ever wanted to use it on a console?
