Take-Two Interactive explains GTA V PC delay

Rockstar parent company, Take-Two Interactive, released its quarterly earnings this week and incidentally, that means we get a small peak inside the inner-workings of the publisher. Most companies have to justify or explain business decisions to investors so when the earnings report came around, Take-Two had to acknowledge the reasoning behind Grand Theft Auto V's delay on the PC.

It's not a particularly exciting revelation, the company basically told investors exactly what it would have told anyone else, Rockstar needed more time with the PC specific version. During an investors earnings call, Strauss Zelnick said:

“When we move a title, it's almost always the same answer, which is giving a title a bit more development time to make sure that it can be everything that it ought to be. And while we would prefer never to change a release date, it's proven to be a good move for us in general.”

Strauss then went on to proclaim that Take-Two Interactive has the “highest Metacritic rating in the business, and that correlates with revenue and ultimately, of course, profit.”

Grand Theft Auto V for the PS4, Xbox One and PC was announced earlier this year, while the new console versions will still release in November, PC owners are going to have to wait until the 27th of January, close to a year and a half after the game's original release date on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Those who owned the game on the Xbox 360 or PS3 and registered a Rockstar social account will receive extra content once they buy and login to a ‘next gen' version of the game on the PC, Xbox One or PS4. If you were waiting for the game to come to the PC and didn't cave in to buying the console version, then you'll be missing out on a few features.

KitGuru Says: So there you have it, Zelnick didn't get in to any specific details regarding GTA V's development for the PC, Xbox One and PS4 but its safe to assume that the console versions were prioritized in order to hit the earlier release date. Are you guys looking forward to GTA V on PC? Have you lost interest due to waiting so long?
