Wii U – exec admits footage was nabbed from 360 & PS3 consoles

Nintendo have admitted that their video footage used at the Electronics Entertainment Expo  this week was actually nicked from rival consoles, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

The Wii U was warmly received at the event and a lot of focus was placed on the tablet style controller, which seems to have taken the lions share of the media attention. They did however show a selection of games which they claimed would never run on the Wii, due to hardware limitations. The new Wii U had much better graphical prowess and finally delivered High definition graphics.

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo boss however admitted in a live interview with Gametrailers that the footage was actually from Sony's Playstation 3 and Microsoft' Xbox 360 platforms. Fils-Aime said when asked about whether the footage was taken from the consoles – “Absolutely, because we're talking a year away from when the system's going to launch.” He did claim however that the graphics were representative of what will be possible on the upcoming console.

“In terms of how good it looks, it's going to be driven by what the individual developers do. It's going to be 1080p, it's going to be high definition. You're going to see games that take full advantage of a system that has the latest technology and can push out some incredible graphics.”

Companies have been doing this for years, especially when a game isn't yet fully finished. But we can't see this move being a positive one for Nintendo, after all they are saying that the graphics of a console which is due to be released in a years time, will have the same capabilities of two consoles which have been on the market for years already. Microsoft also were humiliated recently when they used footage of Final Fantasy XIII on the Playstation 3 to advertise the Xbox 360 version.

KitGuru says: What will happen if the Wii U isn't even as good graphically as the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 when it is released next year? False advertising?
