Sony want more women to make games for Playstation 4

Data released by Gamasutra and the Game Developer Magazine show that more men are making video games professionally than women. This isn't ideal as many big companies within the game industry want to get women more involved in gaming.

There has been a lot of progress in recent years, and according to statistics, around 47 percent of players are women. With this in mind, Sony want more women to create the games.

Sony want the Playstation 4 to appeal to women and they believe that by hiring women to make games, that will happen.

Andrew House, from Sony Europe spoke to The Sun “We are not going down the route of making the console pink, “I think the key is to have people – and increasingly women – with different sensibilities creating different games. It is not all about shoot ‘em up games.”

They have shown they want smaller developers involved creating unusual games, alongside the usual suspects such as Killzone: Shadow Fall. Sony have been promoting their console in partnerships with independent developers.

House added “The key is getting game developers who are going to make the next Angry Birds excited about the PS4. And they are.”

Statistics show that ‘violent games' such as BioShock Infinite, Crysis 3 and even Tomb Raider are played mainly by men. Around 71 percent of gamers for ‘core' titles is male, according to the NPD group.

Kitguru says: More women involved in creating the games we play, definitely a good thing.
