Micron may buy struggling Elpida

Elpida Memory announced today that they are in talks with Micron Technology regarding a possible takeover. Elpida filed for bankruptcy protection in February with 448 billion yen in liabilities.

Elpida have said in a statement that Micron Technology have won the right for negotiations to buy the company. The news was leaked earlier this week by a source, close to Reuters.

Elpida also make chips for use in tablets and smartphones and they have been searching for an investor to help with a company restructuring.

Kitguru says: Whether Micron will judge them a viable proposition for a takeover is not yet confirmed.
