Noctua will offer free mounting kits for those upgrading to Socket AM5

We are just days away from the launch of AMD's new Ryzen 7000 series processors. The new chips have a new IHS, but coolers with support for Socket AM4 should work nicely with the new AM5 socket too. If you are using a Noctua cooler, you'll be able to get a free upgrade kit to ensure compatibility with the new processors.

Noctua announced this week that all of its CPU coolers and mounting kits that support AM4 will work with the upcoming AM5 socket, with the exception of the NH-L9a-AM4 and NM-AM4-L9aL9i low-profile cooler and mounting kit. Due to the original design, this particular cooler would require replacing the standard AMD backplate with a custom one, which isn't possible with AM5.

To make up for this, owners of this cooler, or an older Noctua cooler, will be able to claim a free AM5 mounting kit, ensuring compatibility with a newly built Ryzen 7000 system.

Noctua has routinely offered free mounting kit upgrades for its coolers, dating all the way back to 2006 when AMD introduced Socket AM2.

For full details on Noctua AM5 compatibility, and how to claim the free mounting kit, be sure to check out Noctua's AM5 page.

KitGuru Says: We'll have to wait and see if other cooler makers make similar announcements. Do you currently use a Noctua CPU cooler? Will you be keeping it for a Ryzen 7000 upgrade?
