Fan remakes are resurrecting Hideo Kojima’s P.T. for Silent Hills

P.T. took the video game world by surprise back in 2014, designed as an interactive teaser for the next instalment of the Silent Hills series. While P.T. was controversially removed from PSN as a result of Silent Hills being cancelled, it seems that fans are working to make the title playable on PC, as remakes have surfaced.

Back in 2014, Silent Hills was a project that had fans on the edge of their seats as the love-child of renown video game director Hideo Kojima and film director Guillermo Del Toro, starring The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus. Of course, the title ended up on the chopping block as a result of publisher Konami and lead developer Kojima’s very public feud.

While many mourn what Silent Hills could have been, P.T. was the real victim. The title was removed from the PlayStation Network entirely, with Konami blocking the ability to reinstall. This created a market in which PlayStation 4 consoles with the title already downloaded would net for an extreme profit over their retail price.

Now, it seems that developers are working to make the title playable again, with the first remake known as ‘Corridors’ created by SmoggyChips. Whereas the original title used Konami’s proprietary Fox Engine, developed by Kojima Productions, Corridors is being recreated in Unreal Engine 4. It is a work in progress and far from being finished, but can be downloaded and played here.

The second remake comes courtesy of LinusPixel, who has extracted the original files including animation, map and texture data, and is attempting to pair them with a new engine. This prototype is also playable, but again, expect bugs.

KitGuru Says: Kojima is known for his elaborate marketing techniques and surprising reveals, so it’s no wonder that fans lauded P.T. with praise for its direction and atmosphere despite being such a small project. Did you catch P.T. before it was axed? Would you like to see a remake?
