After dropping a teaser for its follow-up to Far Cry 5, Ubisoft has lifted the lid on its upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter at The Game Awards 2018. Far Cry: New Dawn builds off the controversial ending of its predecessor, entering into new territory for the series.
Set 17 years after Far Cry 5, New Dawn explores the fallout that devastated Hope Country. Two new villains take the spotlight, simply known as the Twins, leading a group of power-hungry scavengers that seem to dominate the land. Although the evil Joseph Seed concluded the previous game by fulfilling the wish of his cult, the trailer teased his survival. Met with overwhelming guilt at the world he has created, it looks like he could very well be on the player’s side – however this remains to be confirmed.
Far Cry has never been afraid to delve into different settings with its standalone spin-offs, realising a retrofuturistic 80s-inspired setting in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and the Stone Age in Far Cry Primal. New Dawn will fully embrace the post-apocalyptic setting, endowing the player with makeshift weapons such as a crossbow that fires saw blades, helping to survive against mutated creatures roaming the land.
Expected to be smaller in scale than the fully-fledged mainline entry it succeeds, New Dawn pre-orders are set at £37.99 for the standard edition and £45.99 for the Deluxe Edition, including the Hurk Legacy Pack, The Knight Pack and two skins. Players will be able to get their hands on the direct sequel when it hits PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on February 15th, 2019.
KitGuru Says: New Dawn looks to be less bleak than the Fallout series and more akin to the humorous, pink-clad Rage 2 also set to launch next year. Personally, I’m intrigued to see if Ubisoft can really redeem Seed after his diabolical acts in Far Cry 5. Are you excited for Far Cry: New Dawn?
