Onimusha Anime announced by Netflix

These days it seems as though any and all successful video game IPs will eventually be adapted into a different medium. The latest game to be getting such a treatment is Capcom’s Onimusha franchise, with Netflix now announcing that the series will be getting an anime adaptation.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Netflix Anime account said “It's your first look at ONIMUSHA, an anime based on CAPCOM's legendary game. Created by Takashi Miike and Shinya Sugai from Sublimation, with Musashi Miyamoto modeled after Toshiro Mifune.”

Alongside this, the streaming giant released a few key images from the anime, giving us a look at the show’s art style. As can be seen, the anime seems to be using 3D models to emulate traditional 2D animation. This technique has become more and more common over the years, however early reactions to the art style seem to be somewhat negative.

Of course, it is far too early to judge the quality based on a few screenshots, and for fans of the Onimusha franchise, seeing it being revived in any format is a boon for a series which has not seen a new entry since 2006. Hopefully this is the start of an Onimusha revival.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the images shared? Are you excited for the anime? Does using a 3D art style matter to you? Let us know down below.
