Techland teases open-world “Fantasy Epic” with new details

Back in May of last year Techland – known best for their work on the Dying Light series – announced that they are working on a brand new game set in a fantasy world. While details were light at the time, the team have now offered an update on the project while showcasing some new concept art.

Taking to Twitter, the official Techland page gave fans another brief look at their upcoming project, saying “We never stop improving! Our newest game is set to be a narrative-driven #fantasy epic with an exotic open world ready to be explored. We strive to create a compelling story-focused #AAA title that combines and refines the best aspects of gameplay that Techland is known for.”

The concept art released alongside this shows an attractive-looking open world featuring highly fantastical architecture and world design – as well as what appears to be a destroyed moon/planet in the sky.

Perhaps the most telling part of the art is the presumed protagonist climbing a giant tree, seemingly confirming that Techalnd will be bringing their parkour mechanics to this new game. This is doubly confirmed by the team stating that this new game “combines and refines the best aspects of gameplay that Techland is known for.”

The Dying Light games have done very well for Techland, though due to the series being a spiritual successor to Dead Island, the games struggled in some ways to carve their own wholly unique identity. Hopefully in going to a fantasy setting Techland is able to separate itself further and create a game which does not yield such comparisons. Hopefully we get a trailer at some point this year.
